SCA Grad Show 

September 2017

This month I am facing completion of the Masters of Fine Arts degree. After two and a half years of research in Rozelle, a residency in the Bogong National Park, exchange in Germany and resistance against the neoliberalisation of a brilliant institution, my thesis is finished (!) and the examination work is almost installed. 

Opening Thursday at 6pm with drinks and nibblies, I am joining the twelve MFA and PhD candidates who are presenting their work in a public graduate exhibition, being held at SCA Galleries.

Video installation. Fire. Water.

As part of the Sydney Contemporary 2017 Public Program, Interlude Gallery will be presenting ‘Intermural’, a showcase of painting, sculpture, video, installation and performance art.

I’ll be displaying a video ‘Outdoors’ and a re-worked sculpture ‘River Detritus (australian standard campfire)’ for the occasion.

‘Outdoors’ is an audio-visual exploration of a series of landscape mirages. Sydney’s venue, Carriageworks becomes a staging ground for Australian landscape apparitions, superimposing footage captured during bushwalks in the Gardens of Stone National Park, NSW, and the Bogong National Park, Victoria. Accompanying ‘Outdoors’ is ‘River Detritus (australian standard campfire)’ – a sculptural exploration of interrupted thermal matter, melding concrete with campfire in an obelisk form.

Opening Night Cocktail Soirée: Saturday 9th September 7 - 9pm

Exhibition runs from 5th - 16th of September

Interlude Gallery takes over Kinokuniya | Sydney Contemporary

Featuring Artists: Bryden Williams, Chris Sutevski and Szymon Dorabialski Interlude Gallery will be taking over the Kinokuniya exhibition space with the work of their Interlude artists Bryden Williams and Chris Sutevski, alongside Interlude collaborator Szymon Dorabialski. While Sutevski explores drawing through computer systems = input/output in a work titled ‘Google Recursive’, Williams and Dorabialski will inhabit the gallery …

In September I’ll be participating in Sydney Contemporary’s official program. My work ‘Streetlamp above River’ (2016) is included as part of Interlude Gallery’s curated takeover of Kinokuniya’s Wedge Space.

A street lamp negotiates unusual territory in a documented foray aside a river on the western edges of the Blue Mountains. ‘Streetlamp above River’ appeared in ‘Site-Specifics’ (Feb 2016) at Interlude Gallery. For this group show, I will exhibit unseen video of the river-side intervention along with the mercury vapour lamp itself. Alongside fellow Interlude Gallery artists Chris Sutevski ad Szymon Dorabialski, our exhibition of ‘idiosyncratic installation and video’ will be open for the entire duration of September as part of the Sydney Contemporary Program. 

The exhibition opens September 1st, running until Sep 30th, 2017.

The Sydney Contemporary Art Fair runs 7th - 10th September at Carriageworks.

This is a short piece I wrote for the Bogong Centre for Sound blog earlier this month whilst on the Artist in Residence program. The BCSC is situated in Victoria’s high country, within the Alpine National Park.
