To no one’s surprise, tswift was my top listened to artist because of folklore. This song makes me think of Helia and Rue. I see Helia in these lyrics “there goes the last great American dynasty/ Who knows, if she never showed up, what could've been” because she really shakes up MACUSA and the American pureblood high society circles by just being Helia, self-possessed and soft-spoken and taking no shit. Rue is definitely the lyric She had a marvelous time ruining everything, referencing how she quietly literally ruins all of Dumbledore’s careful plans. 

50. Stay Awake by London Grammar 

THIS SONG. I don’t know why it isn’t higher on the list I swore I listened to it way more times because this is Peak Rue/Tom™️. Literally, their ship tag comes from the first verse. I am the blank page before you/ I am the fine idea you crave. The second verse tho, unparalleled in how perfect it is for Rum. I dont have a skin like you do/ To keep it all in like you do/ I don’t have a soul like you/ The only one I have/ Is the one I stole from you. Like...those lyrics speak for themselves. 

75. Shrike by Hozier 

Okay, so the theme of rebirth, while not quite resurrection but in the same vein, makes me think of Brynna, and therefore her relationship with Klaus. The second verse in particular: All of that goodness is going with you now/ Then when I met you, my virtues uncounted/ All of my goodness is going with you now. The idea of losing his goodness alongside his love, as if her dying/leaving has taken his heart/humanity with her very much fits Klaus and how he changes in the absence of Brynna.

67. Anyway the Wind Blows from Hadestown.

Wow, my musical obsession is being put on blast lol.So this song gives me a lot of peak hermit Eyrie vibes. She has become jaded and guarded because ✨trauma✨ While she was living on Silva in a self-imposed exile she thought like this: “everybody is a fair weather friend. In the end, you're better off alone. Any way the wind blows.” 

31. The Night We Met by Lord Huron

Okay okay. So a lot of my pairings fit this song because I love that angst. Especially these lyrics. “I had all and then most of you, some and now none of you. Take me back to the night we met. I don’t know what I’m supposed to to do haunted by the ghost of you.”Particularly Klaus/Brynna come to mind because on one level it could be about the thousand years of separation between them and Klaus morning her. But on another level it could be about the arc Brynna has when she leaves Klaus after she has been resurrected. In both cases there’s definitely a strong longing and nostalgia for the start of their relationship, when they were human and happy.

By pure coincidence both these songs show my love of musicals about marriages and my hopeless romantic heart who lowkey wanted to really wants to get married despite being very single lol. By other coincidence, these song remind me of the same relationship: my revised vampire dairies oc, Brynna, who was Klaus’ wife a thousand years ago. Particularly these lyrics from My Skin is Made...” You look like forever to me My heart is slowing down Your face is an ocean I've seen” and these lyrics from Wedding Song “The birds gonna make the wedding bed and the trees gonna lay the wedding table and the rivers gonna give us the wedding bands.”
