Ashton (13):
Being a late bloomer was nothing I would ever be proud of, but who could really be proud of hearing their friends talk about boys, bras, and periods while you just nod along?
A lot of people told me that I was blessed I hadn't gotten my period because “it’s a mess”. I didn’t really mind if it was a mess or if it was inconvenient a lot of the time, I just wanted to be like the other girls.
However getting it with only my older brother around was just God playing some cruel joke on my wishes.
“Ashton!” I screamed. I had previously sat in the bathroom for minutes on end until I decided I would just tell him, because of one reason, I didn’t have any pads.
I could’ve managed just fine if I had some, my mother and I had talked about it, she just neglected buying any pads for me to use when the time had come.
“What?” He asked, but it was muffled through the bathroom door.
“I-I need something?” I asked, my voice becoming high and my cheeks warm.
“Yeah? What is it?” He asked.
I knew it was natural that girls had periods, everyone went through the cycle and everyone had to ask someone for a ‘feminine product’ it was practically inevitable.
“Well you know that thing that girls do?” I asked and awkwardly waved my arms around.
“Are you talking about periods?” He chuckled.
“Yeah, well, about that, you see, I just started mine and I don't have any pads, I mean, I know what to do and stuff mom and I already had the whole talk and everything, I just don't have pads, so I'm here just kinda bleeding and I’ve got nothing to plug it up, but I suppose if you’re using pads you don't have to plug-”
“Y/N! Calm down! I’ll go get you some pads, okay?” He laughed, cutting off my rant.
“Okay,” I sighed in relief, “Thanks Ash.”
I got his laughing as a response as he mumbled ‘plug it up’ under is breath.
