Everything You Need to Know About B. Tech. Lateral Entry
There are many students who apply for a B. Tech course and wish to graduate in it. However, not every student gets that opportunity. There are many students who do other engineering courses because they didn’t get admission in B. Tech.
B. Tech Lateral Entry is a programme that enables students to get direct admission in the second year of the BTech program. Students who apply for this course either desire to acquire more knowledge or want to get a better degree to make their career stronger.
Top institutes like MIT Manipal offer BTech Lateral Entry in various branches like Civil, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Mechanical, Mechatronics engineering along with many others.
Here are a few things that you should know about the program:
Eligibility for BTech Lateral Entry
There are usually two scenarios that make students eligible for this programme:
Students who have studied in a relevant engineering field for at least three years and have acquired a diploma in the same with a minimum aggregate marks of 50% are eligible to apply for the programme.
Students who have passed the first and second semester of their B. Tech and are looking for a transfer to a different college can also apply for this programme. In this case, students are required to have passed the first two semesters with a minimum score of 50% and should not have any backlogs.
Colleges that provide the BTech Lateral Entry programme have their own application review process. The college also checks the seat availability in the branch that the student desires to get admission in and if all the factors fall in place, admission is granted.
Comparison between BTech and BTech Lateral
Students who get admission in BTech Lateral have a three-year course in BTech. This is because they get admission directly in the second year. However, students with regular B Tech admissions have a four-year course.
The advantage of BTech Lateral is that a student already comes with three years of education in a technical field and the additional three years of B. Tech learning after that is a big plus.
BTech Lateral Entry is a wonderful way for students to get a Bachelor of Technology degree. If you are eligible for the course, you can get admission in it and get a chance to enhance your knowledge in a particular BTech field that you choose.
You too get a change to work as an engineer after finishing the course. Students who get into the programme, get the same education and degree as other B Tech students.
