Jadavpur University Won’t Admit Diploma Students to 2nd Year BTech in 2025 Due to JELET Delay
Jadavpur University (JU) has announced that it will not admit engineering diploma students directly to the second year of BTech courses in the 2025–26 academic session. The decision comes after a delay in the Joint Entrance Lateral Entry Test (JELET) conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB), a senior JU official confirmed.
Impact of JELET Delay on Diploma Students
The JELET exam is designed for admission to the second year (third semester) of four-year BTech, BTech (Pharmacy), and related programs. Typically, students who have a diploma in engineering or a BSc degree can gain lateral entry into JU’s BTech courses if they qualify in JELET.
However, this year:
JELET was not conducted in October as scheduled.
No official communication has been received from the Higher Education Department regarding a revised schedule.
JU Official Statement
A JU official stated:
"As JELET has been inordinately delayed this year and classes for the four-year BTech course have already started following admission to the first year, this time we cannot admit diploma students qualifying JELET."
The official added that delaying second-year admission would disrupt the academic schedule:
First-year BTech classes have already started.
Second-year exams cannot be postponed as it would affect students admitted via WBJEE.
Earlier delays due to the OBC quota issue have already pushed back the academic calendar.

The WBJEE 2025 results were published in August, three months after the examination, due to an impasse over OBC reservations, further affecting the scheduling of JELET and related admissions.
