The scene takes place in an alternate timeline during the second episode of the game, where Kid Tannen took control of Hill Valley. In this timeline, I decided that Marty had to wait sometime before he and Doc would return to the past to fix it.

Story:

Marty blamed himself for causing the change in 1931. If it wasn't for that, his dad wouldn't be suffering like he was now. He wasn't able to walk, live independently or write new books by himself. It was hard for him, but he lived like that with his passion. They were able to live in peace and pay Kid Tannen so that they wouldn't live in constant fear. Biff had fun with it.

George didn't want to blame Marty for his return. He managed to return permanently despite being exiled from town. Marty didn't care at all, he was waiting to fix it. At one point, he couldn't hold back the tears. And neither did George. It was a heavy feeling of guilt.

George didn't want his son to suffer like this. It was never his fault.
