This is forever so funny and dramatic and relatable. 🤣
Sorry but Spike’s Crush outfit will never not be funny to me. Like that’s his Normal Guy outfit. He’s such an ordinary and datable guy. See? Nothing strange or uncanny about him AT ALL. Look at how normal is. But thing is it’s just the exact same configuration at his usual clothes but blasted with a Joe Normal beam 🤣
It’s a newer black leather jacket but NOT a battle-worn duster. It’s a light grey t-shirt instead of a black one. You know what’s so normal and civilian?? TAN KAKIS instead of black jeans. And to top it off we’ve got an earth toned button down instead of a blood red or black one. He was wearing a blue one earlier in the episode.
Because good totally normal not undead guys wear blue right? That’s totally a thing. That’s such a normal thing to do. He’s literally trying so hard to be as passably and presentably ordinary as possible but also he’s still dressing exactly the same sksksk.
He’s just trying so hard and deep down screaming look how normal I can be please love me
Dawn and Spike are so funny in Crush because they both think they’re being so cool. Spike for scaring a 14 year old with spooky campfire stories and Dawn for being So Tough and listening to said stories. But the reality is they’re both total dorks that get jump scared by a creaky door 🤣
We don’t talk enough about Drusilla knowing about Buffy’s death in 5x14
So wait wait in 5.14 when Spike was telling Dawn scary stories technically it was…it was tales from the crypt. Okay I’m done. 🤣
No because the absolute insanity of having I Was Made For Loving You by Jane Espenson immediately following Crush by David Fury. I’m absolutely SOBBING at the back and forth. I mean I don’t know nor would I EVER presume what their work relationship was like but I do know they seemed to have vastly different ideas on their portrayals of Spike. And Fury said as much that he believed that if you shipped Spuffy you’re the type of person who writes to serial killers. Well anyway, absolutely INSANE how Crush was all about how it’s so messed up that Spike loves Buffy! He’s not even human! He’s a monster! He doesn’t have a soul! He doesn’t even know what feelings are! It would be absolutely beneath Buffy to ever even consider him! It’s wrong and bad and subhuman!
And then 5.15 wheels back around with “btw here’s this random guy who had a non-human girlfriend who loved him more than anything but because she wasn’t human he didn’t treat her like a person and never once considered her feelings and he thought that was fine because she’s not human! Do you see how sad and messed up this is! This has nothing to do with any of the other characters at all!”
And there’s stuff like this in the script skdks
I realize Crush is a Very Serious Episode and Spike getting disinvited is a Big Deal and it’s because he’s so terrible and he and us as a collective fandom should all sit in the corner and think about what we’ve done but also Buffy barges into his house constantly too so I think he should have been allowed to put a shitty “no slayers allowed” sign on his door
