• Always carries a sketchbook, and a quill. (Mastered the art of Magic-ink for convenience)

• Wears light and colorful clothes to clash against the color of her magic. (Color theory thing or smth)

Ishgard is incredibly fraught for Ysayle, for obvious reasons that remain even long after the war is over, and she is by far the most nervous about being publicly known as the lover of Ishgard’s greatest champions, the Dauphin of House Fortemps much less the Lord Speaker and Lord Commander of the Temple Knights—she has not forgotten those old & ugly rumors and wants desperately to save Aymeric in particular from scandal or political blowback. Ishgard is the one place in the world she can’t escape Lady Iceheart.

But Gisele’s and Aymeric’s very public declarations of support for her, her heroics on the Steps of Faith when she helped save Estinien, and her actions since then in support of peace have gone a long way towards changing attitudes toward her for some. Don’t get it twisted, there are some people in Ishgard who will never forgive Ysayle for what she did, because they lost loved ones and comrades to the Harriers, Vishap’s assault, etc. She accepts that. It’s one of the reasons she worked so tirelessly in the Firmament—what Sam said to Bucky on TFATWS, about doing better being the way to move forward, is something that would resonate strongly with her. It’s what Gisele and the others have told her so often, when she doubts herself. And she doesn’t do it to win people over, she does it because it’s the right thing to do—she may not have intended for the attack to go as far as it did, but she’s responsible for that pile of rubble at the end of the day. It’s mostly clear by the time she comes back to Source but that doesn’t stop her from throwing herself into it to help. And the fact that Francel has forgiven her—a Haillenarte, someone who personally had every reason to hate and despise the leader of the cultists who framed him and nearly got him executed, whose family was nearly ruined by these false associations? And Ysayle feels she owes him a debt, specifically. Her work there goes a long way toward healing for all involved.

Tbh, being seen with the others there in the city does help win a lot hearts and minds too. The conservatives in town are a distinct minority, nobody believes that old rot about coups anymore. Mostly because they see how much Ishgard is flourishing and prospering now that it’s at peace with Dravania. But it means something that Aymeric, who is always so circumspect and almost painfully aware of public perception and his reputation, makes no effort at all to hide his affection for her. Ysayle gets more comfortable with it in time but it still wigs her out a little. She just very badly doesn’t want to cause problems for any of them. (And yea part of her still feels a little unworthy of the forgiveness she’s gotten)
