Bubba Just Doesn’t Care
Following an uncomfortable and predictably candid answer by Bubba Watson regarding the Waste Management Phoenix Open and its host course, TPC Scottsdale, many golf fans are finally staring to realize what the temperamental lefty’s true colors look like.
After being asked about the course, Bubba clearly expressed his lack of enthusiasm about the course and by showing up to play in the desert. “I don’t like it. I’m not going to PC it. I don’t like it at all. I just mentioned why I’m here. I’ve got three beautiful sponsors that love it here.” Drawing the ire of numerous sports reporters, fans, and golf commentators, Bubba made his honest, albeit somewhat tactless, comments about the recent Weiskopf course redesign and how he feels the holes are “goofier.”
Say what you want about Bubba’s abrasive personality, but there is certainly no denying that his unconventional swing, exaggerated hold-offs, and unrivaled power will add many more titles (regular and major) to the 37 year old’s trophy case.
We can only hope that he staggers these wins so that he never reaches #1 in the world, a point at which he adamantly assured the media he would retire earlier in the season at Tiger Wood’s Hero World Challenge Tournament.
Although Bubba’s temper-tantrums, outbursts, and moments of boorish immaturity have inspired various backlashes, including #prayingfortedscott on Twitter and other social media outlets, his brutal honesty and candor is refreshing in an environment where every tour pro regurgitates carefully crafted statements that are pre-written by teams of PR reps and agents. Lacking any personality or originality, these statements are an unfortunate reality of our hyper-connected social media centric sporting atmosphere. Watson’s statements draw attention due to their rawness and bluntness.
Burn down the whole damn Tour Bubba.
