*There probably needs to be a term-of-art for hacker craft objects of this kind. Not "products," not "prototypes," sort of available, barely. But also pretty famous. They're not "design fictions." Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino calls them "gonzo products" because of their Maker-scene means of production, but I don't see what's particularly "gonzo" about it. If you saw one for sale in an Apple or Ikea store, with all the proper gloss and branding, you wouldn't call it "gonzo."
*Maybe just "hacker craft"? It is artisanal, after all.
