"Night shifts"
Bucky Barnes x Vet! Reader
Summary: You hated night shifts until a big, muscular, beautiful man barged into the clinic holding a little kitten underneath his leather jacket.
Warnings: Fluff, fluff and fluff.
(My very first Bucky-fic, so I already apologize for any mistakes.)
It was a slow night, which is rare at a vet clinic that is also an animal shelter. It was pouring hard outside and the sound of rain was lulling y/n into sleep. But she can't sleep, it's her turn for the night shift tonight. It's just 11:45 pm and she's already feeling sleepy. She groaned and got up to check on all the animals.
I hate night shifts.
It was just her and Jim on duty tonight. All the animals are already sleeping. No colleagues to chat and pass time with (Jim doesn't count because he hates everyone and always at the back of the clinic). She really hate night shifts.
She went to stand near the little makeshift bed where five cute little puppies sleeping. Just a few days ago, they were left on the doorsteps of the shelter. She smiles at the sight of them hurdled together and cuddling for heat. She picked up a blanket and covered them up slowly trying very hard to not wake them up. Just as she was done draping the blanket, she startled at the sound of clinic doors bursting open.
She gasped at the sight of a big, leather-clad man with long hair standing at the door frantically looking for something. He was drenched with rain and it looked like he was holding something underneath his leather jacket.
Bucky's eyes scanned the entire room looking for someone and finally landing on the woman standing at the corner looking at him suspiciously. Bucky approached her and as he got closer he realised that the woman is quite pretty. Very pretty actually. Very very pretty. He shook his head mentally. This is not the time, Buck!
As the man approaches, Y/n was frozen. The man was beautiful. Steel blues eyes looking at her and only her. She actually started sweating but as soon as she saw a little white kitten hidden underneath his jacket, her doctor-side came alive.
"Oh my god! Is that a little kitten?"
"Hey, yeah! I was lazily driving around and saw this little guy laying by the roadside. I stopped to check on him and saw him shivering, he was soaking wet. So, I placed him under my jacket and drove straight here. I think he's having trouble breathing and-"
You didn't get the time to appreciate how sexy his voice was and how cute he looks when he rambles clearly worrying about the tiny little kitten, because you slowly took the kitten from his hand and wrapped the little guy in a heating blanket. You grabbed the stethoscope to check his pulse, all the while the nice beautiful man hovered around you.
You smiled a little when you found a steady pulse in the kitten but he's still shivering and to avoid getting him any flu you gave the little guy a shot.
"Is he gonna be alright? "
You almost gasped at the question completely forgetting about the beautiful company. You looked at him and found him already looking at you with those very blue eyes. You got flushed under his stare and any coherent thought left your head. Damn! Nobody should be allowed to be this beautiful.
"Uh,.. Yeah! Yes, he'll be alright once the shivering stops. He'll be alright. I'll keep a close eye on him, don't worry. He's a brave a little guy"
Bucky released a sigh of relief and smiled at your last line. And his heart fluttered a little at the sight you smiling back at him. He felt a little guilty for staring at you the whole time you were checking up on the little guy when he should have been paying attention to the kitten he found. But you were a beautiful woman and he couldn't help. You looked so beautiful while taking care of the kitten and you got that little smile on your face when you figured out that the kitten will be fine.
"Do you need a towel? "
Bucky nodded at your question and saw you getting somewhere inside to probably get the towel. While you were gone, he looked at the kitten and his heart ached at the sight. Such a beautiful little creature struggling too much. Bucky lightly pet the kitten and smiled when the little guy leaned towards his fingers for the warmth.
"Here"
You saw the beautiful man smiling at the kitten, petting him and you almost swooned. He looked at you at your call and accepted the towel murmuring a little 'thankyou'.
"You a cat person? "
You couldn't help but ask. He laughed a beautiful laugh at your question and you felt that laugh between your legs. God! Y/n, you're such a slut. You scolded yourself.
"I don't know. I just knew that I couldn't leave that little guy on the road, shivering during this terrible night"
My god! It's like he's perfect.
"Good. If only, everyone was like you then maybe this little guy wouldn't have been ended up on the road in the first place."
Suddenly, his gaze felt almost too heavy on your face and he stepped a little closer to you.
"I'm Bucky by the way"
"Hey Bucky, I'm Y/n"
Maybe night shifts aren't that bad, after all.
