“Wandering Buddha Earrings” – The walking Buddha is an artistic style that flourished in Thailand’s Sukhothai kingdom during the 14th and 15th centuries. The Sukhothai era portrayed the Buddha simply and elegantly, mid-step with his heel lifted and eyes lowered, practicing walking meditation. Walking is one of four postures prescribed for meditational exercise in ancient Theravada Buddhist texts. After renouncing his early life as a prince, the Buddha, Siddhārtha Gautama, spent the remainder of his life as a wandering mendicant, teaching throughout northern India. Earlier Buddhist art had stressed the god-like and king-like aspects of the Buddha, and neither gods nor kings were imagined as walking monks. Thai representations thus presented a new image of the Buddha, emphasizing his more human aspects – walking among the people and attempting to alleviate their suffering. https://www.etsy.com/shop/LotusAndLaceBoutique #buddha #buddhist #walkingmeditation #meditation #buddhaearrings #buddhaaccessories #walkingbuddha #thaijewelry #bohoaccessories #bohojewelry #bohojewellery #hippiejewelry #etsylove #etsyfinds #etsysellersofinstagram
