making a post to discuss some of the behind the scenes for my uty fics on ao3 because i'm in a yapping mood
good-luck charm
- when i first got the idea to write this fic i thought it would be around 3k words, 4k tops. instead i ended up writing 11k (3k of which are in the scrapped chapter 2). funny
- i scrapped chapter 2 because pretty much everything that i wanted to say was already in the first chapter, and i lost interest in writing it so i just decided to cut it out and mark the fic as complete.
- "clover" is a chosen name, not their birth name. i meant to expand on it in chapter 2 but since that doesn't exist now the only hint of it is in this line where "clover" isn't capitalized. it probably looks like a typo to a reader but it was very much intentional
- chapter 2 was supposed to follow the pacifist route, and at the end of it, clover would give ceroba their good luck charm bookmark, completing the fic with a callback to the title.
Budding Sprouts
- the title is supposed to be some sort of pun/wordplay... budding, like buddies. and the sprouts refer to clover and flowey who are both plant-themed.
- originally this fic featured clover climbing mt. ebott together with martlet, and there was a whole segment of worldbuilding about what the uty cast has been up to between the end of undertale and this fic taking place. ultimately i scrapped it because (i think) i didn't really like it and it felt like the fic was taking too long to get to the point (clover and flowey) with it in it. in retrospect i could have just kept it in tbh but oh well
- this is about my headcanons in general but in this fic, i wrote clover as pursuing a career in social work, rather than wanting to become a lawyer or other more law-aligned positions. i feel like clover's moral compass doesn't necessarily align with the law, and that they would even outright disagree with it in many cases. because of that, they prefer to directly help people and improve their life circumstances through smaller, less flashy acts, as their own personal act of justice.
