“So, you wish to know something no one else knows about me?” he has to break the mood least he drags her to the strange loo in the back of the bus and take her maiden head. Not recommended.
“Yes please.”
“When I was twelve I tried chewing tobacco with a couple of my mates.” She makes a disgusted face. Unlike himself, she doesn’t find his secret hot. He can’t blame her. “Agree. Lord I got so sick. I promise you I've never done it since.”
“Why did you?”
“Sometimes all a man needs is tobacco and a room he can swear.” He softly sings. “In truth, it was on a dare. Being stupid.”
“Don’t be to hard on yourself. We've all done stupid things in our youth “ He starts to laugh.
“Youth, I think we are still young.” She concedes the point with a shrug. “So what crazy thing have you done?”
She thinks a moment. “A few years ago, I skinny dipped with some mates of mine.” He swallows hard at that thought.
“Just lasses or..?”
“Just lasses. It was a hot day in Ireland and we had no swim suits so..”
“Saints preserve us.” A plea and a prayer.
“You did ask.”
“Aye. But I am trying hard to be good here.” He squirms a bit and she understands. A flush raises over her face.
“Sorry.”
“Don’t stress over it. You aren’t to blame for how I react to you.”
“Right. It is obvious as a guy. But I am having the same problem.” His eyes get comically large. “Just not as obvious.”
“Okay, God help us. A change of subject.”
“Yes please. I should have asked before now. What university are you going to?”
“Quincy College.”
“No Ivy league, eh?”
“God no.”
“Why coming all the way here to study? Not that I am not thankful.”
“As am I. My parents wanted me to expert life outside of Scotland for a bit.”
“Logical. How close to the Commons is your school. That is where my mum lives.”
“Let’s see.” He looks it up. “Just three kilometers. Or around ten miles.”
“Quite doable!” they both grin.
