I bought the Buttercream Alpaca Solids Yarn the week before Christmas to make a winter hat and scarf set for my sister-in-law. The yarn is a blend of Acrylic (80%) and Alpaca (20%) and incredibly soft and warm. The hat and scarf should be plenty warm enough for even the coldest midwest winter days. It worked up fairly well. I was using a 6mm crochet hook, and probably could have gone up in size (8mm or 10mm hook perhaps) to make it a little easier, but since I was travelling and hadn’t brought those hooks with me I worked with the biggest hook I had. I bought 4 skeins of yarn and used about 3.5 to make a hat and scarf set. I have had a few knots in each of the skeins I bought from where the yarn broke and was tied. This is frustrating as I dislike having knots in my projects. However, I worked the knots in because I didn’t want to have a ton of extra ends. This yarn also sheds, a lot. It is an alpaca blend however, so this was really not surprising. I did look like I had been attacked by a shedding cat. For an alpaca blend yarn, at the price (I had a coupon and it was on sale when I bought it) it really was a good deal. I’d recommend giving the yarn a try, but if the shedding is going to bother you—I’d recommend using a different yarn.
