what fic do you wish you could have written?

Hiiii 💕

I'm gonna name three fics here and why I wish I could have written these fics (I initially was gonna name two fics and then I had to add the third because it is also incredible)

First is Coming Up Easy by @musette22. I wish I could have written this fic because it's just so wonderful and fun. It's basically everything I love in a fic and one of my favorite comfort fics. Like this fic feels like a warm hug after a bad day. Which I think is incredible when a writer can create a fic that just makes you feel good. Plus the writing is excellent because Minnie is a genius and all the beats are there in this story. It just works perfectly. And it's one of those fics where the pacing keeps you engaged and makes you forget you are reading a longer story. Which is amazing! Also the characterization and all the details in this story were so so good. ALSO: there were references to Steve not always being healthy and also still having some issues (which I love as a disabled person because that means there's not some magical miracle cure). AND: a cute dog and Alpine! And again all the little details. And the pining. Just everything. And how it all came together at the end. It just all worked!

Second is Not Easily Conquered by dropdeaddream & WhatAreFears. I know some people find this controversial at this point in time but I think this story has touched a lot of people in this fandom which is an incredible achievement for any writer. And writing good historical fiction is so hard! And I think the formatting was so creative. So I wish I had those skills!

Third is lane lines by @sparkagrace. This fic is amazing for so many reasons. First of all Steve makes a lot of bad choices in this fic but it's written in a way that makes you still root for him which takes a lot of skill! The pacing is phenomenal. This fic is over 132k and I read it in less than a day because the writing kept me engaged and made me wanna read more and more. It didn't feel like a long fic (I feel like I mention the "it doesn't feel long" thing a lot but I have the worst attention span and read a lot for uni so usually I can't get through long stories because my brain gives up after 10k). ALSO: I don't often read sports aus because I just don't really engage with sports that much and usually I feel like I am missing at least half of the information needed to understand things - also not the case in this fic. Me not knowing enough about Olympic swimming wasn't an issue with this fic because there was enough information for me to understand what was going on and why things mattered. Also this fic got me invested so fast! I love when that happens!

But so five of my favorite fics I have written would be (in completely random order because choosing is hard):

Hairpin Triggers [Stucky, 6,1k posted but I have about 17k written]

Bucky first met Steve while the leaves were turning into shades of red, orange and yellow.

A story about falling in love, loving while being deeply traumatised, watching your entire life fall apart, and then putting it all back together.

This is the most personal thing I have ever written (and probably will ever write). This one is a favorite just because of how important this fic is to me.

Tough Act [Stucky, 9,2k words]

A decade after they broke up Bucky shows up on Steve’s doorstep. He needs his help. Bucky needs a boyfriend to convince his record label to let him release his next album and if he can't get a real boyfriend, a fake boyfriend will have to do.

Steve agrees. After all there's nothing that could go wrong with fake dating the guy you've always had feelings for, is there?

This one is self-indulgent fake dating and mutual pining with the pop star!bucky of my dreams AND just a bunch of elements I love in fics.

It's a Date! [Stucky, 4k words]

Steve stumbles across Bucky’s TikTok and it leads to them meeting. They get along perfectly and it's the start of something beautiful.

This one is a favorite because it's just super self-indulgent again and fueled by watching too many TikToks and this has ALL THE FLUFF. I love fluff.

Sexiest Man Alive [Evanstan, 1,3k words]

Sebastian calls Chris after seeing People has called him the sexiest man alive. Will they finally get what they've both wanted?

I just had a lot of feelings after Chris was named the sexiest man alive and this happened. I love it. I had to make it happen.

The Little Witch in the Woods [Stucky, 1k words]

Bucky was content in his little cottage in the woods, he loves practicing magic and cuddling his cat Alpine. Then one day an injured werewolf shows up on his doorstep and Bucky finds something else to love.

I love fantasy and magic and fluff and shrunkyclunks and this has all of that.

At this point I'm not even surprised that the MCU did something ableist again but the people laughing at it, ughhh. So gross. Do better people! It's literally not that hard to not be an ableist asshole and yet.

This! So much this!

Marvel has been consistently ableist. Like just some highlights:

- The jokes about Bucky’s arm in Infinity War

- Making Bucky’s arm conditional on being good in FATWS

- Literally forgetting Rhodey was disabled in FATWS.....

- Now joking about Bucky’s arm AGAIN

- The amount of times we see disabilities as something to be miraculously fixed on screen.......

And I could go on and on and on. But as a disabled person I don't want to because I am so sick and tired of it.

Things like this make me hate the mcu more and more. Not that the fandom is much better tbh... The amount of ableism I see in fics and the amount of people I see saying ableist things, dismissing disabled people's concerns and making excuses for a massive corporation or other ableists and laughing at ableist jokes. It's gross. It's so gross.

If you think ableism is funny you are a disgusting person. I can't and won't make it nicer than this.

I'm on this account to have fun and I don't wanna get involved in discourse but ableds have no idea how heartbreaking it is to constantly get ableism thrown in your face.

This bit is very much unedited (wrote it on the train this morning) but I like it:

Steve handed Bucky a cup of tea and Bucky wrapped his hands around it. His flesh hand felt warmer than it had in a long time. Bucky felt warmer than he had in a long time. 

Steve kept a menorah in his home. Was it that time of year already? What time of year was it? Why did this matter so much to Bucky? 

"Are you okay, Buck?" Steve asked. 

Lines of worry were etched in his skin. That was wrong. Bucky knew that much. It reminded him of mothers, years ago. Another century, another home. 

"I don't know," Bucky said. 

Steve sat down next to Bucky. He hesitated for a moment before he reached out slowly and put his hand on Bucky’s shoulder. 

"I'm here for you," he said. 

"I know," Bucky said because he did. 

There were feelings and words unspoken between them, lost in time. Bucky wanted it back. Whatever it had been, he needed to have it back.

okay but a Stucky "The Nanny" AU

okay but I am literally outlining this as we speak. Like The Nanny was my absolute favorite show as a kid. I watched it obsessively. This show was on nightly and I made every in my family watch it every night, even if the episodes were returns. I have seriously seen every episode multiple times and Fran Fine is an icon and I love her so much.

so when I saw my stucky bingo square that's movie / book / tv AU i knew i had to go for this iconic show

obviously Bucky = Fran and Steve = Maxwell

it's already so much fun!!!! and it means having an excuse to rewatch the series which yay I want

Hi my little bug, I've been wondering what made you decide to write and post Hairpin Triggers, since it's obviously a deeply personal story for you? And how much has the story changed between your initial idea and the version you are posting? 💖💖💖

Hi Piper my angel, thank you so much for asking this! 💙💙💙

What made me start writing Hairpin Triggers was a need to cope. While I have mostly recovered from trauma, at times I still really struggle with the things that happened to me and this year in particular a lot of things happened that triggered that trauma again. I had to find some way to process things.

That actually also helps to answer what changed between the initial idea and what I am currently posting. Initially I was also going to include Bucky becoming disabled in this story and the trauma that comes with that. But as I began to write, I realised I couldn't. I haven't processed that trauma at all and I can't safely write about it without triggering myself too much, especially before I work through this with my therapist first. Another thing that changed is that I initially felt like this story was going to be written in a very heavy way and while it was super heavy and triggering for me to write (especially some scenes in chapters I still need to post where Bucky shares more details about his trauma), I don't think it comes across as heavy for readers? And I definitely decided to not go into detail about everything and leave some things up to imagination because it honestly was too triggering for me to write and I had to protect my mental health. I also decided against including actual flashbacks because of this. Instead Bucky talks about what happened to him and thinks about what happened to him but it was too triggering to write the trauma as it was happening for me. I tried but I triggered myself so badly I threw up, so not a great idea and we are not doing that again. Lol.

As for what made me post this. Partially it was through support from friends that made me feel like I could post a story like this. Partially it was because when I was going through this trauma as a kid and teenager books and fics that included the same trauma helped me. Those stories helped me cope and they also made me realise that what was being done to be was bad. So if this story can even help one person not feel alone, posting it is worth it.

BABY I loved Tough Act SO MUCH. It was everything I wanted and more. That sweet, sweet pining, the music, the Arctic Monkeys scene, Steve constantly wanting what's best for Bucky but being so in love, the lines blurring between fake dating and real dating. It was INCREDIBLE. I loved it. Also if this is how you write when your brain is not at full capacity, then WOW. You are a genius. Thanks so much for sharing.

Also I noticed that you made a Tough Act series on AO3?? Does this mean we are getting more???? If so that would be a dream true!!! Okay ILY baby bug 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
