Satellite view of the Ural Mountains (Russia).
The Urals are the dividing line between Europe and Asia, and also form the western boundary of Siberia. The northernmost sector of the Urals are called the Polar Urals, and the Nether-Polar Urals are just to the south of them. Both these sections are shown in this image; they are characterized by glaciers and are known as permafrost regions. Mount Narodnaya (1,894m) is the highest peak of the Ural Mountains.
North-west of the Urals is the Barents Sea, with Kolguyev Island in the middle of it. Bugrino is the only inhabited settlement on the island, with a population of around 300 people.
