Buick LaCrosse Concept
Buick is the oldest operating car brand in North America. In 1903, the Buick Motor Company was founded in Flint on the basis of the David Buick engine building company.
Buick LaCrosse is a further development of ideas embodied in concept cars of previous years. First of all, these are Buick Signia and Buick Cielo. And the design of the large car (length - 5.2 m) echoes the Buick Y-Job concept car of 1938 and the production Buick Roadmaster convertible in 1949.

LaCrosse is built on the front-wheel drive platform of the production Buick Roadmaster sedan. The main thing here is a universal body. Electric drives lower the rear body panel, raise the large trunk lid to the ceiling - and the sedan turns into a light pickup. To prevent dust and exhaust fumes from being sucked into the passenger compartment on the go, a glass partition rises behind the rear seat.

Swing doors open almost 90 degrees, providing free entry and exit to both the front and rear seats. From the devices - only the clock (it is assumed that in the future other information will be projected onto the windshield). The only round button on the central tunnel controls the main systems of the car, including the automatic transmission. And some commands are given by voice.

LaCrosse’s most notable feature is its ability to be quickly transformed-with a single voice command-from a luxury car to a light cargo carrier with an open bed. The tailgate electronically slides downward and under the vehicle, and the rear window and rear portion of the roof slide forward to reveal the cargo area. During this operation, the front section of roof moves slightly downward to accommodate the sliding panels. LaCrosse’s four doors are power-operated and hinged at the front and rear pillars, opening at the centre pillar for easy access.

The interior showcases consumer-friendly advanced technology such as voice-activated controls in place of the switches and displays usually mounted in the instrument panel.

The only visible controller is a single trackball-like device installed in a console. The driver uses the controller in conjunction with voice commands to operate all systems except throttle, brakes and steering. Features selected by the driver are projected on the windshield in reconfigurable colour head-up displays for both the driver and front passenger.
