Take A Hit For You (Pt. 3)
(Part 1) (Part 2)
Kaen and Iya somehow managed to get to Naomi’s house, now she needs to take care of both of them before it’s too late.
Naomi managed to catch Kaen's shoulders before he could hit his head on the corner of the table, swearing under her breath, she let him lay down on his side, in recovery position, before checking his condition with her power, taking a small gaze at the wounds.
He was just passed out with exhaustion, and had more time before the poison took effect seriously, unlike Iya. She could feel the pulses of danger from her even without touching.
"I'm sorry Kaen" she whispered, rubbing Kaen's cheek gently before getting to her feet, "Just as you said… Iya needs help first, I'll make it quick alright?"
Kaen groaned slightly, but didn't open his eyes.
Naomi turned her attention to Iya. She checked with her ability to make sure she didn't have any problems other than the wound, and the poison, her healing allowing her to see anything wrong with Iya. She lifted the bloodied sweater, revealing the makeshift bandages made of some sort of cloth. "You two really can't get your nose off of trouble, aren't you?" She muttered as she started cutting them.
Iya let out a small whimper, her hand grabbing Naomi's as if to stop her from hurting the wound more.
"No, Iya you need to let me take a look" Naomi gently pried Iya's hand off hers, "I don't have time…"
Pulling away the bundle of soaked tissue, cursing under her breath when they got stuck to the open wound, and made Iya flinch away from her, Naomi carefully examined the wound.
It wasn't so big, fortunately, and it looked like Kaen did a good job at taking out the bullet without making it wider. She quickly numbed the area, before she cleaned the wound, and started healing. Reaching at the wound with her ability, manipulating it to close on its own while she also supported it with a few stitches.
Compared to what she had to heal countless times in the emergency department of the hospital, it was easy for Naomi. But Iya was weak, so weak with poison, she had to leave some of the healing to her body's natural healing process to not exhaust her more.
Glancing back at Kaen every now and then to make sure he was alright, Naomi took the bullet she put on the table. Frowning at the black-ish, clear substance coating it, she rubbed some of it on a piece of gauze and started going through her knowledge on poisons. Then took some of it on her finger and also examined it with her ability.
"...Nao?" A weak voice made her jump, she saw Iya looking at her with half closed eyes when she turned back.
Putting the gauze back on the table, she immediately caught Iya's hand from where she was trying to reach the wound she just stitched and wrapped in clean white bandages. "Shh… don't touch that" she whispered, "Do you remember what happened?"
Iya's hand shook in Naomi's gentle grip, she frowned for a while like trying to remember before nodding slightly.
"Good, I just cleaned and closed your wound okay?" Naomi smiled down at her, "Are you feeling it hurt? It's supposed to be numbed"
"...feels… weird… tingly.. like sick" Iya slurred, she squeezed Naomi's hand, desperate for some comfort, "...Where… Kai?"
"He's right here" Naomi said, scooting to the side without leaving her hand, so Iya could see Kaen laying on the ground on his side. "He managed to get shot while carrying you it seems" she added before Iya started asking about the blood on his clothes. "But I have an idea what the poison is already, so, he will also be fine"
Iya took a shaky breath, before nodding slightly. "...He… he looks bad" she muttered.
"It's mostly the exhaustion… the poison hadn't take full effect on him yet. But I already know the antidote" Naomi said, "You need to let my hand go, so I can prepare it"
"... you have… 'tidote?"
"Yeah, I'm actually surprised it's just a common medicine I need to neutralize it" Naomi said with a small nod, "I think our aggressive friends were not as patient as they normally would, to find something hard to cure"
Iya nodded, the normally dim lights of Naomi's living room were making her eyes hurt, more than it was supposed to, feeling like she had a high fever, and couldn't move with muscle pain, she forced herself to breathe slowly, "Nao… please hurry" she said, "It.. it hurts…"
Naomi gently pushed her hair from her forehead, turning back to her first aid box, she pulled out an IV bag, and a few vials of medicine. "So, I'm giving you a dose of antibiotics, with the antidote, and some liquid… because you definitely need it. Also, obviously, painkillers" she explained gently. "You will probably feel sleepy, so don't resist it and just rest okay?"
Iya shrugged slightly. "Yeah… you do you… I don't understand it… anyway" she said with a smile, "Sleep sounds good…"
"It should, you need it" Naomi said, talking to her and distracting her as she quickly set up the IV, her hands gentle and practiced. "And no getting up when you wake up, because I don't want you falling on your face"
"I won't… fall…" Iya chuckled and let Naomi pull a soft blanket over her, her need of rest even letting her ignore the sticky feeling if blood all over her. "...thanks Nao" she said, "Kai…"
"I know, I'll take care of him now…Tell me if you feel anything wrong" Naomi nodded, before she turned to Kaen.
Kaen was both worse, and better than Iya. It was clear his wounds happened a while later than her, with the poison not quite taking effect fully on him. But then, he had two wounds. Meaning he lost more blood, and got more poison in him.
"Hey, Kaen" she tapped his cheek, "Kaen, you need to wake up"
"Antidote first… it will take me a bit time to heal those wounds" Naomi thought as she prepared another dose, twice as what she gave Iya, because of the two bullets, other than that, it was basically the exact same of everything she gave Iya.
A groan escaped Kaen's mouth, as he slowly peeled his eyes open.
It hurt.
Like something was stabbing him on his shoulder… and his thigh. Kaen managed to understand he was with Naomi through the fog in his mind. Naomi was towering over him… Was he laying on the ground?
Naomi smiled down at him, holding his hand and gently rubbing it, "Shh… she's safe, I just patched her up" she said quietly, she quickly turned to the side, so Kaen could see Iya laying on the couch, already asleep under the blanket. "Now it's your turn"
"Oh…I… I got shot… IYA?" He remembered finally, his one hand reached up and grabbed Naomi's wrist tightly, "...ya?... Iya…?" He asked, not even sure if he got his voice to work, or thought the words.
"...my… turn? She… alright?"
Naomi nodded, "She's gonna be just fine… just resting" she explained, gently brushing Kaen's hair back from his face, "Kaen, will you let me help?"
"Yeah… yeah… why not" Kaen gave her a sleepy smile, the throbbing pain making him feel out of it. "You're… healer… after all"
"I would say you're so cute when you're confused if it wasn't the poison threatening your health" Naomi muttered, shaking her head.
Kaen just waited patiently as Naomi repeated what she did with Iya, before she was tapping his shoulder. "Kaen, I'm going to turn you so I can work on your back" she said, "It looks like the bullet hit you on your back"
Kaen nodded again, he clenched his fist, taking a sharp breath to not make a sound against the pain and letting Naomi slowly turn him to lay face-down, with a pillow under his face. He felt the stings of numbing a moment later and had to bite back a pained sound. That was the part he hated most… even worse than the actual hurt, he hated that part.
"Sorry, I know you don't like that part" Naomi whispered, brushing his hair, "Good thing.. your wounds don't look that bad compared to what they could've been, so you can just relax while I'm healing it alright? Please don't resist it if you feel sleepy"
Kaen nodded to the pillow, "Thank you… Nao" he whispered quietly, "Iya… told me to not go to hospital… she's scared…"
"I know she's scared of being there… fortunately it's something I can take care of"
"She says it reminds her of when I lost my power"
"I… I talked about that with her before, don't feel guilty for it, Kaen" Naomi explained as she got her tools and gently and carefully started working on healing Kaen, "You know it's not your fault… it was a really hard time for you"
Kaen clenched his jaw, nodding again. "It was scary," he said, "That's why… I'm still in school… so I can protect others from experiencing it"
Naomi gave him an encouraging smile, "Brave little boy, aren't you?" She joked, not breaking her concentration from the wound on Kaen's shoulder. It was bigger normally would be, since Kaen kept moving and putting strain on it without noticing. "Honestly… you have much more adrenaline than necessary. How do you not feel a fucking bullet?"
"Dunno… thought… pulled a muscle… or something…"
Kaen cringed at the clattering sound when Naomi took out the tiny bullet and let it drop to the small metal dish she brought for that purpose. He could only feel the pressure and tug of Naomi's tools as she worked, which was a relief, since he didn't want to make sound and scare Iya more than she already was. The relieved pressure of the wound, mixed with him being slightly scared of what was happening made him more nervous than he already was. "I… I had to remove the bullet from Iya's wound" he muttered.
"And you did a hell of a good job at it" Naomi nodded, she quickly started closing the wound, "You saved her life, basically. If that bullet kept dissolving poison…"
"I hurt her…" Kaen muttered, moving restlessly under Naomi's hand, "She was crying… and screaming… I can't get my mind off… off that sight of her"
"It's completely normal Kaen… it wasn't easy, I even know some doctors that wouldn't be able to do that in an emergency"
Kaen let out a small yelp when she accidentally touched a part that wasn't numb, almost turning away from Naomi but she just calmly held him in place. "Don't move'' she said, "I don't want to cut you instead of healing"
"S…sorry" Kaen said, "I… I think it's not numb there… hurts"
"I'm sorry… you don't need anything to apologize…." Naomi muttered as she kept working, being careful not to touch that place again.
Naomi could feel her heart breaking at the sight of Kaen just calmly laying in front of her while she healed the wounds. Not even a movement from him. She didn't know even if it hurt him or not, since he was completely quiet.
It was so different from the Kaen she knew all the time as he was a kid, even a year ago, he would be squirming and crying even with just the anxiety from getting bullets removed from his wounds.
Kaen shook his head, "...'s alright… jus… just give me a pillow… and blanket"
"Just how hard have you been fighting?" She wanted to ask, and pull him into a hug, but instead, she quickly finished up, and wrapped the wounds neatly in clean bandages. "You're all set…." She said softly to him, "Do you think you can move to the couch? Floor can't be comfortable…"
"If you say so… but you'll move to the couch when you can"
"'kay"
With the exhaustion from running while carrying Iya all the way here, and the adrenaline crash catching up to him, mixing with the painkillers Naomi gave him, it was all but impossible for Kaen to resist sleep. Before Naomi could drape a blanket over him, his eyes were already closed, fast, but evenly breathing with the effects of the antidote Naomi gave him.
"You still look like a kid when you sleep…" Naomi muttered with a smile as she draped the blanket over him, making sure not to move his arm that had the IV, glancing at his young face, and gently combing his messy long hair, "I'm so sorry you had to experience all that…"
Kaen hummed something in his sleep, moving restlessly for a moment before settling down again, his pale face going expressionless.
Giving him a kiss on his forehead, Naomi got to her feet to check Iya, who was also asleep, the thin white mist that always appeared around her when she used her ability was gently floating around the couch, barely noticeable.
"Oh Iya…" Naomi said softly, sitting down on the small space next to her on the couch. She pushed her hair back, behind her ear, but Iya didn't react to it, deep into sleep. "I wish there was something I could do about the nightmares… but you can take care of them like you do all the time… I trust you"
Iya turned slightly, her face leaning against Naomi's hand like she wanted some comfort, "Yeah, I'm here…" Naomi whispered and kept brushing her bangs, grabbing Iya's hand with her one hand while doing it, "I'll stay here alright? Just rest…"

Whumpee hung limply in Whumper’s grasp, their arm over his shoulder, their wrist in his grip, his other arm around their waist.
“No...” they muttered softly. “Give it...” their hand reached out to Whumper’s pocket, trying to steal back the capsule.
Their team had warned them. Get caught, you’re on your own. Get caught, die!
They didn’t need the warnings. Whumper had been so... kind to release the previous scout they had sent. Whumpee had seen Whumper’s methods. It had been the main reason why they volunteered to be the next. Whumper’s victim was their friend. And when they got him back, they could barely recognise him.
Whumper pulled them up by their waist, earning another soft groan. Blood seeped into his combat fatigues, but he didn’t seem to mind.
“First things first. We need to remove that bullet.”
He deposited them none too gently on a bare table.
Whumpee flailed and tried to close their fingers around anything they could find. Preferably the scalpels on the tray next to them.
“No, no, no.” Whumper nonchalantly moved the sharp objects out of reach, pried one from their weak fingers. “This won’t go anywhere near your throat, much as you’d like.”
He hovered the stolen scalpel above their abdomen, carefully cutting their shirt open.
“Oh, that is nasty. That looks painful.” His hand rested on the bullet wound, thumb and index finger circled around the hole. Whumpee howled when he pressed down. Blood ran over his fingers.
“This cannot do.”
He put the scalpel out of reach and started fiddling with the straps on the table, tieing Whumpee down. A large leather strap covering their torso so they wouldn’t be able to trash around causing Whumper to sink the scalpel deeper than he’d want. Deeper than Whumpee would want.
Two harsh snaps caught Whumpee’s attention away from their tired struggle. They looked up and their breath caught when he saw Whumper pulling on the latex gloves.
“No...” they muttered, breathless. “No, please...”
“I’d hate to waste my anesthetics on you. You’re probably gonna pass out from the barest touch anyway.” Whumper poked around the wound with his scalpel, testing his theory. Whumpee disproved it with an agonising wail.
Whumper continued on with just a shrug. “We’ll see how far we’ll get, then.” His indifference was sharply contrasted by the glint in his eyes and the pull of a smile on the corners of his mouth. He ignored Whumpee’s pleading.
“Oh, don’t be like that. If you wish, I will return you to your precious team. Later. Just... maybe not in one piece. Maybe I’ll keep the biggest piece here.”

A couple of days later, the team received another small envelope. Again, there was no note, but the message was clear. Inside was another small glistery item. This time it did contain a little blood.
It was the removed bullet.

Take A Hit For You (Pt. 1)
This is honestly such a mess, I literally don’t have any place in the timeline so I’m just randomly posting it here!!! Enjoy XD
"KAEN!" Iya's voice echoed in the small opening, between the abandoned buildings, almost at the brink of collapse.
A weird whistling sound echoed in the walls, as Kaen felt himself stumbling back with Iya's weight against him. She was walking next to him a moment ago, but now Kaen had to steady himself for both of them to not fall, wrapping his arm around Iya's shoulders.
"Iya, what's suddenly…" his question was cut in half as Iya's knees buckled under her and she just fell to the ground, gasping and pressing her hand against her side. Her hands trembled, with shock.
Kaen immediately caught her, slowing down her fall and making her lean against him on the ground as he went to sit on his knees with her. "Iya, what's wrong?" He asked, almost shouting with panic. "Iya?"
All the answer he got was Iya's struggling breathing, and a small sob as she slumped against him, her shoulders trembling as she still held her side.
Kaen felt his heart falter at her pained sob, wrapping his arms around his sister, pulling her into his embrace. "Iya… please, what's wrong?" He asked with a begging tone.
"I… I don't…" Iya stuttered, another sob cutting her sentence in half, "Don't… know…"
Taking a steadying breath, Kaen forced himself to stay steady. For Iya. He thought. "Hey… does your side hurt? Did you bump into something?" He asked with a forced calm tone, "Can you let me take a look?"
Iya nodded.
Kaen ever so gently took her wrists from where they were still pressing on her side, his breath catching in his throat when he saw Iya's soft grey trenchcoat had a growing dark red stain under her palm, as well as her hands.
"I-iya… you're…" he muttered, looking at her with wide eyes, "It's bleeding… what happened…?"
"I felt… felt something dangerous… dunno what" Iya's voice wheezed, "I felt… like… needed to… cover you…"
Kaen froze, feeling like he couldn't breathe. His vision blurred with panicked tears, his lip trembling.
A cold, and wet with something sticky, hand touched his cheek, snapping him out of the panic, and dragging him to the real world. The world where he held the wounded Iya in his arms.
"Shh… breathe" Iya whispered weakly, "Kai… breathe… I'm right here angel…"
"Iya…" Kaen sobbed, hugging her tightly to his chest. "I… it's bleeding… I'm sorry… I need to put pressure… it's gonna hurt…"
"I know Kai… my… my bag… tissues…"
Kaen fumbled through the bag that was hanging from Iya's shoulder, before pulling out a bunch of tissues. Taking a steadying breath, he adjusted his hold on Iya, opened her now stained trenchcoat and then lifted her sweater underneath. Almost to the level of the ribs, there was a deep looking gash on her pale skin, bleeding and covering her torso in bright red blood.
"What… hit?" Iya asked with a shaky voice, trembling against the cold when Kaen lifted her sweater and resisting the urge to pull her coat closer. She didn't think she could move with the pain now starting to settle strongly from the place she was wounded.
"I can't understand… there's something small inside…" Kaen mumbled, examining the wound briefly, "Sorry for that" he said before strongly pressing the bundle of tissues on the gushing wound.
Iya went stiff under his hold, letting out a scream against the pain and her hand clenched on the neck of Kaen's coat, her feet kicking on the concrete ground under them. She squirmed, trying to get away from Kaen's hand.
"Iya no… I need to hold it here" Kaen panickedly grabbed her tighter, with one arm wrapped around her back, holding her up in a half sitting position while he pressed as steady as he could on the wound with the other hand. "Please… I know it hurts…"
"...Kai… pull… pull… hand…" Iya slurred, tugging sharply at Kaen's coat where she still grabbed it on his neck, her breathing was fast with pain as well as her face already covered in tears. "Hurts… it hurts… hurts…"
Kaen placed a soft kiss on her hair, his own tears dropping on her golden and pink hair, "Shh… it's alright… it's gonna be alright…" he whispered with a wet voice, "Breathe with me… okay? Just like you teach me… slow, slow and steady…"
Iya was crying by now, her small, pained sobs breaking Kaen's heart as she pressed her face on his chest, trembling in pain as Kaen held the pressure just as he remembered Niran telling.
"Iya, look at me" Kaen softly said, and continued when Iya's eyes met with his, "Put your hand on the tissues for a second… I'm gonna try to make a bandage"
"Don't let go…" Iya sobbed, holding onto him like the world depended on Kaen. "Scared… hurts… Kaen…"
Kaen bit his lip and gently pried Iya's one hand off his neck, putting it on the bundle of tissues. Iya squirmed again, a small scream sounding from her. "Please hold it here" he whispered, kissing her hair again. "I'm gonna get you out of here… and Naomi will patch you up like you didn't get hurt at all"
He pulled out one of his small throwing knives and quickly hacked off a piece from his shirt. Before gently wrapping it around Iya's torso, securing the bundle of tissues that was already almost soaked in red, making Iya whimper again.
"There we go… it's secured" he said, wiping the blood from his hand on his pants.
Another pair of that whistling sound made both of them flinch, as Kaen looked up with wide eyes, searching for it's source. Something landed on the concrete next to them, throwing little pieces in the air.
Iya shouted in fear, holding onto Kaen who all but wrapped himself around her, shielding her from anything.
"Shit… Iya, we need to leave" he muttered, breathing fast, as he wrapped his arms around her and stumbled to his feet. "Hold tight to me… I'm going to run"
"No… Kai… run away" Iya patted his chest, "You need to go…they're shooting at you… leave me…"
"DON'T BE RIDICULOUS!" Kaen shouted suddenly, causing Iya to jump at his loud voice, as he carried Iya into one of the buildings, leaning against the wall to catch his breath. "Iya… never… never tell me to do that… I can't… never…. I'd rather die…" he started crying, hugging her tight to his chest. "I'd rather die than live without you… never… "
Iya smiled up weakly at him as the shooting stopped outside, "I'm sorry…" she whispered, her voice trembling with pain. She looked so pale, with sweat covering her face and a sickly color on her face. "Kaen… ahh… it… it hurts… hurts… too much…"
"I think we lost them… " Kaen muttered, he slid to the ground against the wall, hugging Iya tightly and wrapping his arms around her small silhouette and breathing fast. A heavy weight on his chest was making it hard to breathe like something was squeezing his heart. "Iya, something looks wrong… you look sick.. it's not supposed to look like that"
"Huh?" Iya looked up at him, and for the first time Kaen noticed how dilated her pupils were, the black almost completely covering the red of her irises.
"...It's poisoned"
"What… what do you mean?" Iya asked with fear.
"Iya… the bullet is poisoned" Kaen muttered, panic in his voice, "Your eyes… it's… it's what Niran said… your pupils dilated too much…"
"That's why… feeling dizzy?"
"You're feeling dizzy?"
Iya nodded, her jaw trembling because she clenched her teeth too hard, "Dizzy… nauseous… and feel like fever"
"That's not good… no…" Kaen murmured as he rolled his coat up as a pillow and laid Iya down on it gently, holding her hand.
"What… do we do…?" Iya choked out, crying and squeezing Kaen's hand hard enough to bruise his hand. "I'll… I'll die?"
Kaen's eyes widened, "NO!" He shouted, "No no no no… I… I know… how to stop bleeding… and, and I need to take the bullet out so it doesn't release more poison… Iya… can you hold on for a little bit?"
Iya gasped and nodded, "Call… Nao?"
Kaen shook his head, "There's no connection… but I can take you to the hospital… after I stop the bleeding"
Iya gave him a shaky smile, "I trust you… my little baby" she whispered, her bloody hand gently tapping his cheek, wiping down his tears, "I'll try to stay quiet… "
Kaen leaned to her touch, another small sob shaking his shoulders as he closed his eyes, "I… I hate seeing you hurting… it hurts my heart…"
Iya smiled again, before another throb of pain made her squirm on the ground and new tears drop to her cheeks. "Do it… again" she whispered weakly, her voice getting fainter, "For my brother… I'd take it again… promised mom… I'd take care of you"
That made Kaen just snap, and he broke down crying, leaning forward over Iya and sobbing.
Iya lifted one arm to wrap around him, pulling him closer even through the pain. She needed to calm him down before she passed out… she could feel herself fading.
"Kai… listen" she said, "Just… just do… whatever needed, don't mind me… crying or anything… and leave if they find us…"
"Iya I WON'T leave you" Kaen sobbed, "His face on her shoulder, "I won't… I'm just going to clean your wound… take out the bullet and we will leave, I'll get you to the hospital, we're just outside of the city"
"Nao's… house" Iya muttered, "She's not working… today… her house… closer than hospital…"
"Okay, Nao's house" Kaen nodded, finally lifting his face and straightening his stance. "Do you have water in your bag? Or any spare cloth we can make a bandage of?"
"Water…" Iya nodded, "There was… shawl…"
"Okay… I have knives…and some hand sanitizer in my pocket" Kaen said, a nervous, but dedicated tone in his voice. "Iya" he said, holding Iya's hand, "I'm going to give you something to bite on… so you don't bite your tongue alright?"
A confused expression formed on Iya's face, she was looking more confused with the poison by second. But she nodded, "You say so…"
With Kaen's small movement, a blanket of warmth wrapped around Iya, keeping her from getting cold as Kaen started preparing their tools.
It wasn't much, they had two small bottles of water, Kaen's strawberry scent gel hand sanitizer, and his knife, with Iya's shawl that Kaen was now cutting into thick stripes to make bandages. And some clean tissues.
"Okay… I'm starting" Kaen said when he finished the bandages. He put lots of the sanitizer to his hands and rubbed them together, waiting for it to evaporate. He took a few deep breaths, clenching his hands into fists to stop them from shaking.
Iya tapped his knee, "Slow breaths…" she said, her eyes already half closed, "I'll be fine… it needs to hurt… to help… don't feel guilty"
Kaen took her hand and placed a kiss on her knuckles, "I'm so sorry for everything" he whispered, then he folded Iya's handkerchief, "Bite down on this, okay? Tell me when you need me to stop… when it hurts too much"
"I will…" Iya said before biting down on the folded cloth Kaen put in her mouth, trying to keep her breathing steady despite the crushing fear she felt because of what was going to happen next. She needed to stay as calm as she could, so Kaen could do what he needed.
Kaen reached for one of his throwing knives, he concentrated on his ability for a moment, heating the knife to the point it started glowing slightly red before he took all the heat from it and waited for it to completely cool down, to sanitize it, then he put it down on a clean tissue.
"I'm going to pull away the old bandages… then I need to quickly take out the bullet" he explained softly, "It's small… and I can see it, so it should be easy to take it out"
Iya nodded, closing her eyes and humming behind the handkerchief. She was surprised how she wasn't making any noise despite the burning pain from her side.
Kaen reached and slowly lifted Iya's sweater, rolling it up neatly up to her chest. The wound was just under her ribs, he thought it fortunately didn't look that deep as he thought first time, as he rolled her sweater gently, up to the point where Iya's sports bra was slightly showing up from under it and then he swiftly cut the bandage he cut from his shirt before.
"Tell me to stop if it's too much" he whispered before pulling the bundle of already soaked tissues, "I'm going to clean it first"
Iya nodded again, squeezing her eyes shut and biting down hard on the handkerchief, her hands rolling into fists on the trenchcoat that laid under her.
Kaen rubbed his hands with sanitizer once more, before taking the water bottle. "I'm just going to wash it with water… it's probably gonna hurt"
With that, he started slowly pouring the water.
Iya whimpered, flinching away before Kaen steadied her and held her in place with one hand, her breathing picked up, so fast enough to make bright spots swim in her vision. Her whimpers were muffled by the handkerchief.
"I'm sorry… I'm so sorry I'm so sorry Iya… please hold on for a second.. " Kaen muttered, tears in his eyes as he kept pouring the water slowly.
He emptied half of the bottle in the wound before sanitizing his hand again, feeling a wave of nausea hit him with the smell of blood mixing with his sanitizer, the smell of strawberry he usually liked.
"Iya… I need you to take a few deep breaths, alright?" He said gently as he took the knife he cleaned, "I'm going to take out the bullet… I'll make it as quick as I can… just tap my knee if you want me to stop"
"...Do… wh'you nsheed…" Iya muttered behind the handkerchief, her eyes red with crying. She did what he said, breathing.
"One…. Two…. Three…" Kaen counted for her, knowing that she prefered to know what was happening to be able to stay calm before he took a deep breath himself before tugging at the wound with his fingers gently. When he spotted the shining metal of the bullet, he made a tiny, careful cut to be able to reach it.
"Hhngghhh…aghhh" Iya screamed, her voice muffled by the cloth, her back arching.
Kaen sobbed, wiping his tears with his sleeve briefly. "I'm so sorry… I know it hurts…." He mumbled. "It's going to hurt a little more… please hold on…"
With that, he tugged at the wound with his knife again, this time reaching the bullet and pushing it up with the tip of his knife.
Iya screamed again, begging something Kaen couldn't make out. Her feet kicked on the ground, cracked tiles of an abandoned building they were in, her nails cut into her palms but she didn't even feel it against the pain.
Kaen had to keep her steady with his knee, pressing down on her legs while feeling extremely guilty for hurting her more.
Iya's vision blurred, white hot pain stopping anything from making any sense at all. Only thing she could feel was the pain… pain, and Kaen's gentle hands even through it.
When the bullet moved from the wound, dropping to the ground with a sickening squelch sound before clinking on the ground, Kaen felt Iya go limp under his hands.
He pulled his hands away with panic, his breathing catching in his throat as he looked at Iya's slack face.
"IYA? Iya?" He called out, tapping her cheek, his shoulders relaxed slightly when he felt her rapid pulse on her neck.
She was just passed out.
It was probably better, since she didn't feel as much pain. Kaen was extremely relieved that he could keep her from at least some pain.
He looked at the wound, fighting against the nausea.
With the adrenaline from having to do the first aid starting to wear off, he could feel his hands shaking so hard.
That was her sister… laying under his hands with a wound on her side.
A wound that he just took a bullet from, while probably causing a lot of contamination.
But Naomi could take care of it, now Kaen needed to clean it again and then wrap it. And… carry Iya way back to Naomi's house.
He quickly poured rest of the water bottle, before opening the other bottle and wetting one of the bandage stripes. He carefully wrapped it around the wound and then covered it with all of the other bandages. Fortunately, it looked like the blood was clotting neatly on the wound.
He wetted the sleeve of his coat, when he finished with wrapping the wound and fixing Iya's sweater. Gently opening Iya's mouth, he took out the handkerchief, there was some blood on it, probably from Iya biting on it so hard. He sighed, and apologized again as he slowly dabbed his wet sleeve on Iya's face, cleaning the mess of tears and blood.
She looked white as a ghost, though Kaen guessed some of it was because of the poison, the poison that he didn't know what was going to do to his sister if he didn't take her to Naomi immediately, since she didn't lose an extreme amount of blood. He carefully wrapped her coat, and his own coat on her, and tied her hair into a neat but loose ponytail, fixing it from the messy state.
When he finally finished everything he could do for Iya, and leaned back against the wall, dropping his head back against it, that he felt how fast his heart was beating, and how much it hurt to breathe. It was too much.
It was too much with the adrenaline wearing off, and he was all alone with his thoughts with Iya unconscious next to him. He held her hand tightly in his hand, listening to her breathe and let out small whimpers of pain every now and then, her fever slowly rising.
He fought the panic attack by himself, trying to put his breathing into a somehow rhythm, to not pass out, hiccuping with his heart aching, gasping for breath and clutching his chest.
When he felt like he could breath again, he curled up on the ground next to Iya, to have a little bit of rest, though he was sure he couldn't, and shouldn't, sleep, he could at least let his limbs rest a bit to be able to carry her later.
Wrapping his arms around Iya, he sobbed, his shoulders shook and his tears wetted her hair.
Worst part was over…
Hopefully.
