Almost like there’s a coordinated technocratic rollout hitting every corner of the country at the exact same moment… Like someone flipped a switch and the whole system snapped into formation.

My experience with regular trains and bullet trains in Japan and South Korea were very good. They were clean, fast, on time and efficient. I had a very good experience on those trains. The sad part is that American trains suck in comparison.
The one train I remember riding was this public train in LA when my family was vacationing there once. We could see the yellow smog of LA it was surreal. I also did use the New York subway once when my family was vacationing there. It was interesting and slightly rough around the edges as expected from New York City. Nowadays whenever I hear about the trains in these places it sounds like they went to shit.
It truly is sad how bad American trains suck in terms of function and construction when compared to the ones in Japan and South Korea. You get problems like the high-speed rail in California taking so long to build and being ridiculously over budget. And then for Hawaii we have the Rail, but it was over budget and overdue for so long that it has this tainted image in most people's minds. It does run but on a limited basis and they are still constructing the rest of the rail track.
As a result, I am skeptical of implementing high speed rail in America because they will fuck it up like in California and Hawaii. Which is a shame because I don't think trains are inherently bad.
Self-driving cars? Dumb, Lame, Inefficient.
Bullet Trains and expanded public transit? So fucking hot and sexy.

How many feelings has the Shinkansen carried to this day?

I used to be offended at the idea that every autistic person likes trains. I thought it was so ridiculous. But I must confess....I do like trains.
