The ground was littered with the bodies of the dead. Everywhere he looked Erwin saw eyes wide with fear, glassed over in the clutches of death.

It was a sight that chilled him from within, but he simply brushed it off. Casualties were a part of war, they always had been. For every pawn he lost, another would step onto the board, one step further into enemy territory.

That was the mindset that kept him composed as he walked among the dead, counting heads and marking down names. The list would be long when they returned from this expedition.

But when he met a pair of all-too-familiar brown eyes, that facade began to crack. She couldn't have fallen, not his Queen. The Queen was the most valuable piece on his chessboard, the dearest to his heart.

While he had walked past all the others, he knelt beside Hange. One hand pressed to her neck, looking frantically for a pulse. He tried to ignore the fact that her torso had nearly been rent from her legs, blood drenching the soil around her middle.

One hand came up, slipping her eyelids over his eyes, "Ave atque vale, Zoe." 

Rather than calling for the carts to place her with the others, Erwin carefully lifted her himself. There was no better way to treat his Queen, knocked from her square. No better way to repay the gift of her life that Hange had given him.

Her statement and a single look at her face had him nodding. He rose from his desk, walking to the glass-paneled cabinet where he kept the spirits of a stronger quality. Taking out two glasses, he set them on the small table before pulling out a bottle of whiskey and one of vodka.

"Take your pick, Hange. You know you're always welcome to it, especially in times like these."

Rolls around on the floor in a puddle of love and feels and admiration. I really can't put into words how I feel about her. She's gorgeous and perfect and there's no one better on this earth and I wouldn't change a thing about her. She's amazing at being Zoe(and her other blogs are top notch too) but really she's just a superb person all around and I can't wait until I get to see her and hold her and smooch her and aaaaaghhnnn
