❛ i don't know who that is. ❜ she lies through her teeth. but lying comes easy, it has for a long time now. sometimes, its a little easier than breathing. when it comes to this its necessary. a survival skill acquired when in a cage and retained as those metal bars continue to loom behind her, shadowing her every move. magnolia shoves the photographs over the diner table back towards the other woman. a crease rests between her brows, eyes darting towards the window to watch a blue car whiz past a little too fast. this goes beyond suspicion. if the fed in front of her was as dirty as everyone else is it would be easier to shrug her off. she might even let gabriel make her disappear. the sincerity is the problem. it makes her keep showing up, nervous that someone else will make her disappear. she smiles ❛ i'll buy your coffee if you stop showing me ugly pictures. ❜

BLOWING OUT A PUFF OF SMOKE, he toyed with his cigar in his fingers for a moment. ❝  NO SMOKING IN THE HOUSE? you've got to be kidding me? ❞ he doesn't seem eager to put it out, even with her words; no matter how strict that she was on the matter. it was an old house, no use in having such rules. a little bit of smoke certainly wasn't going to ruin the wallpaper. it was the smell that she was worried about, lingering long after he'd had his smoke.

she shakes the thought, picking up her own drink before moving to sit across from the other woman on the opposite side of the desk. it’s been a long time since she’s had a full nights sleep, and at this point, the coffee just barely keeps her going at times. “I called all of Jennings’ coworkers on record, I’ve got nothing, glad phone bills aren’t based off of minutes use anymore. This one lady kept me on for like twenty minutes.”

               Mike was originally under the impression he was alone in the room. Never hearing the sound of footsteps enter. So it’s difficult to say how long she’s been there. Especially when his thoughts continually dwell on Satine. It only took a matter of seconds for his excitement to transform into that of mourning. Heartbroken over the loss. Watching as she took her last dying breath in his arms. There was nothing he could do to bring her back. She’s gone. All he has left now are the memories of what was. Thoughts of what might have been.

              ❝She was going to leave this life behind.❞ The Moulin Rouge. The plan was to leave together. To follow her dream to one day become an actress. Though he assumes her friend already knew. ❝Did she have any family?❞ It’s only after this question is brought up that he turns to look at Maggie. No mention of her family ever was brought up. Then again, Mike didn’t exactly discuss his own family life. It’s something he assumed would come up at a later date. Believing they had all the time in the world.
