El Índice Big Mac es utilizado como una referencia para comparar el poder de compra real entre países así como la disparidad entre los tipos de cambio de mercado de las divisas y los tipos implícitos. En este vídeo nos centramos en tratar de explicar por qué escogió The Economist un producto como el Big Mac como su referencia y nombramos además otros subíndices que se han hecho a partir de él.

The Economist has come up with this neat interactive currency comparison tool, examining how each country is over / under valuing a certain identical product - in this case the Big Mac, taking into account the going exchange rate.
As an example, a Big Mac in Britain costs on average £2.69, by comparison the same Big Mac would cost the equivalent of £1.84 in Mexico.
The purpose of this tool is to track the long-run hypothesis that exchange rates will ultimately level themselves out to achieve purchasing-power parity, with identical goods being valued at the same amount around the world. The adusted index in this particular tool takes into account the fact that you would expect a Big Mac in a poorer country to cost less as the labour cost would be cheaper.
