i feel like. its ross who ultimately brings up the idea? by this time they already have mads in the group and kit is spending more and more time with them as an unofficial member anyways and they have taken the liking on barry and whatnot so.. why not?

first he brings it to arin, as one of the founders of the club. hes like. instantly in, cause hes somewhat friends with kit and he likes them and the club can always use more members so ‘of course they can join!’. they rope suzy in on the idea. and then dan. and mads, whos ofc excited to bring their roommate to a game club

barry is last tho cause they all know he might. be the hardest one to convince to do this because of. well. reasons

hes kinda on the fence about it first like. are you all sure this is a good idea? not cause he doesnt want kit to join, but its like. spending 95% of their time together basically. he doesnt want them to feel like the only one who doesnt really game (shifty side eyes from suzy and arin just pipes in that hes really fucking bad at games so here nothing matter tbh lol). and whatnot

he says hes gonna sit on it a little bit. meanwhile, its mads and suzy who bring this thought to kit. who i feel like would have the similar kind of worries about it as barry does? do they fit into a gaming club really, what about spending too much time with barry, etc.

in the end, to convince kit, it takes a very nice little chat with arin tho. he just wants them to be comfortable. hes not pressuring or anything, he wants kit to feel included, thats all. if they dont want to officially join, they can still of course be with them while they game in the dorm or do anything else together, its not a requirement. he just thought it would be nice

and kit is like. okay they can. try it out? they participate in like an official meeting once or twice, and its after the first weekend game night they have as a club only event, and they are offered a jacket to sleep under as they seem to be passing out as the night drags on it like. dawns to them

this is what they want. what they really really want. they feel welcome here, surrounded by friends, face snuggled into barry’s shoulder and they. dont mind any of it

(and after the night is finally over and kit kinda timidly pulls arin to the side to tell him that yeah they could. try this club thing out, he presents them with a club jacket like. immediately. he had a feeling this would happen, so he prepared. he is immediately pulled into one of the best hugs he has ever received from a friend)

Yo I need deets on how Mads and the other grumps finally get Kit and Barry, well. Together?

k so like. it starts with the barry starting to avoid kit after he realizes theres feels and kit is just eternally sad about it and its like. very easily noticable by all the other grumps + mads tbh

and like. arin is the first one to consult barry about it tbh. he is curious and wants to know why kit is so upset that they havent been spending time together, and more important why barry hasnt been spending time with them anymore considering that they were almost inseparable study buddies before and now everythings like. awkward and weird? and barry cant really place it, i mean hes kinda aware that oh my goodness he might be having a crush on one of his best friends but he also. doesnt really know how to deal with it and doesnt want to deal with it tbh cause hes? so shy about stuff?? and arin like gets the basic gist of it but leaves it at that, knowing that if you just push the issue with barry its just. gonna make him shut off even more tbh

and arin brings this worry to suzy, as both kit and barry are her classmates so shes close to both of them and she has undoubtedly noticed the lack of cheerful friendship between these two and well. she takes it to kit then. like hey have you seen barry lately, you two dont hang around that much anymore, etc., like a very gentle approach just to figure out whats going on, and while kit might not. directly tell her exactly whats happening at least in their head, they share that they miss barry and all that stuff

cue mads one way or another overhearing this conversation (its either she happens to get back into the dorm while they are talking about it, or she gets the deets from arin later as suzy tells him what she knows), but its like. oh hell no we cant have these two stop being friends over this especially if shes. ever made aware by arin that barry might have some feelings invested in here too. plus if we consider that shes the fanfiction girl, she will know when two buddies are in love

this also gets dan involved tbh cause hes a hopeless romantic (and im fairly sure this is another fictionbang route lol) and these two. NEED to do something about this whole thing tbh, cause mads is eternally whining at dan that something needs to be done cause shes losing her freaking mind over these two nerds and its also slowly eating the grumps crew from the inside cause barry is shutting off more as time passes and its hurting the whole group and just. yeah

so they form a plan - mads makes sure to get kit in the arts center that weekend on a specific time. just mask it as a friendly art session, as they hold those often enough anyways so kit wont suspect anything. arin and suzy are in charge of handling ross - he needs to be distracted so he doesnt get too involved cause this boi might have. already given barry some questionable relationship advice and we dont need to add more of that fuel into this dumpster fire thats already going on. and dan gets barry - pretend that they are gonna do some improv practice for an upcoming comedy night at the auditorium, but they need to swing by the arts center to grab some props

which include a boom box that dan has already slapped a cd with the most romantic songs he could think of, and a cat onesie he needs barry to wear (which he does as dan shows it to him in the arts center, cause its cute and barry likes it and its comfy so he wears it on campus no problem tbh, even if it means wearing it while walking from the arts center back to the auditorium)

cue dan being like “oh we need to get this and that art stuff from there to do some props we’re gonna need” and barry rolls with it - only to march straight into the room where kit and mads are having a quiet art session

it VERY fast dawns on barry upon seeing kit that this was planned, but as dan is standing behind him effectively blocking the way out of the room hes just. stuck there. ..especially after kit bolts across the room to him, not fully registering at first that its barry, but holy shit they NEED to hug him cause oh my goodness hes? so cute?? in a soft cat onesie tho???

and its that moment when the words “holy shit youre so cute” are muttered into his onesie covered chest, followed by “so are you” before dan lifts the boom box over his head and starts blasting love songs over the two of them sharing an embrace

(somewhat of a peace is settled between the two of them from that point forward again, its still somewhat awkward but they are like. accepting of their feelings tho. it takes a little while for them to figure out how to work it all out, but its really after a long study session when they relax by watching some cartoons together that they pass out against each others shoulders that. its just kinda agreed? that we should be a thing?? yeah we’re def a thing now)

When it comes to starting the giant burgie for Barry's birthday, it's when Barry is still?? Not really talking to Kit?? And before Mads and Dan set up the kitty costume incident. (that happens before it's done tho) and Kit is around halfway done with it before they decide that it's an awful idea and Barry is going to hate this and why are they doing it. It takes Mads donating a set of giant googly eyes to put on it - "see, he can't hate it now!"- and knuckling down to help out on it (1/3)

helps them get it done on time, helps them pick out good fabrics to make sure it feels nice and helps them get it wrapped and delivered to the grumps clubroom. There's a couple of incidents where, after they're talking again, Barry suggests they study up in thier dorm together and they yelp in panic because there's still burgie prices everywhere but they're able to come up with an explanation. On the day of his birthday itself Kit decides to leave it for him in the clubroom because theydon't think they can handle the thought of watching him open it if he doesn't like it. Whereas Mads, who's in the grumps club at that point, sends a few pictures to them of Barry just. Hugging the thing. Sprawling on it. Looking thrilled. Bonus: it's after the two wake up one morning sprawled against each other on the burgie that they make the decision 'yeah. Let's be a thing now.'

Bonus if kit and Barry don't happen until kit's already in the grumps club

i feel like this would be. one of the first (of way too many cause look at these irresponsible children mmmm) all-nighters these kids pull with the club activities, and these two are just getting comfy on the giant burgie together while the rest of the group argues over games and arin is trying not to have a loud mental breakdown once again. they just chill in their corner, barry has probably brought in lowertale for them to play together and just. yeah

its the snoozing off together and the chill air they have there in their soft burgie corner together that makes the decision for them like yeah. yeah this is what they both want tho tbh

burgiefeathers; lowertale def becomes a comfort game for both kit and barry. barry just really loves the game so its fun to play with him, and kit relates to the nb main character. sometimes they play it together with ross, cause he does voices for the characters and its just fun to listen to while playing through the game ~

➭ since they are both interested in such different things (kit is an artist and barry is a tech boi), they both also really enjoy. listening the other talk about anything in their respectful “fields”? if kit is talking about art things or stuff they need to make for class or about getting new supplies or literally. anything art related, barry doesnt understand a lot but hes just. so eager to listen tho. even if no art is actually shown to him, he just likes to listen kit talk about their passion. likewise, this goes if barry is ranting about some tech things to kit tbh

➭ i mean its established well already, but the study nights. are a thing with these two a lot. usually they are either in the library or in primrose as mads is easier to eject from the room than ross might be, or they dont find her as big of a distraction as ross might be with company around him, tho it doesnt really matter where they are, they are comfortable studying together pretty much anywhere 

➭ they can also definitely get very easily derailed from studying with. a lot of things. they need to look something up online for info, they end up looking at cat videos. they need to pick up a certain book from the library, they end up looking at literally every other book cause they found it in the wrong section and it was something really funny. kit needs to make some art for a poster, they end up telling barry about some of their projects and end up doodling out some ideas instead of doing what they were supposed do. and so forth

➭ the stray cats. its very unusual that the stray kitties all like a single human, but barry is an exception to that rule tbh - all the kitties kind of gravitate towards him and allow him to pet them and pick them up and feed them treats from his hands? (its speculated between kit and mads that its because of barry’s really calming presence that the cats love??)➭ also usually if barry ends up napping in the dorm when the kitties are there, hes gonna have all of the strays piling up on him while hes asleep

➭ kit often leaves him little notes if they have to take him homework or just class notes or just random notes, and they always make sure to draw at least a little smiling burger on every single one of them. sometimes its just the burger, cause kit knows how much barry likes burgie

➭ they really like taking naps together tbh. i feel like they are both so permanently tired that they just. really like just chilling a lot of time, and while watching chill movies or shows or playing chill games, at least one of them very often dozes off. its very easy to catch them snoozing against one anothers shoulder tbh

➭ speaking of games - they are both honestly really casual gamers. they enjoy more story based games together a lot so they go on bunch of adventures together and whatnot.. and its only after a grumps game night that kit learns that if put into a more serious situation with a more difficult game, barry actually. fucking slays in video games. like hes awesome in them (hes very humble about this skill and doesnt really use it for anything as he just plays for fun, but yeah. if hes involved in a party game night, barry is pretty much always the winner. and if hes not, usually there has been some questionable actions {aka being a cheaty cheater} from arin’s end)

➭ pretty much the only public showcase of pda between these two is very awkward hand holding. they can talk and joke together just fine, but physical affection? maybe hugs, that depends (and its usually initiated by kit), but hand holding is like the absolute maximum. behind closed doors and around close friends, yeah hugs and cuddles and maybe even little nose, cheek and forehead kisses are fine. but nope not in public

➭ and honestly tho like. when hes around kit, barry gets? more open and louder?? like hes a shy little bean but especially if kit is excited about something and being loud and hyper, it is very infectious and its really hard for barry to just not go along with it tbh

the first time barry encounters the stray cats is during a very tired study session with kit. they didnt have time to take the cats out of the dorm before barry arrived, so kit is just trying to hide the best to their ability unfortunately that doesnt work out tho, as chicken nugget is there, and mistakes burgie for an actual burger and tries to steal it while barry isnt looking

The first Barry becomes aware of it he just sees the giant stuffed burgie drifting to one side, come off the bed and keep shifting towards the door. So naturally he takes a hesitant look over to see a fat ginger tabby tugging at the bean bag. That just looks up, meows, and continues tugging at it.

And then there's a very defeated British voice calling 'nuggeeeeet' and a rustling of packaging and she just. Bounds over to the sound of food bc this burger doesn't taste good.

And so Barry looks over and is like "...???"

Bonus if Mads sighs and reveals that she's got Pasta in her lap or somethin.
