Hello again!

What professions(job) do you imagine the main characters from AtLA would have in the modern AU? I have an idea that Aang might be a parkour coach, but I haven't decided on the others yet.

Aang: I like the idea of Aang being a teacher without a classroom, but instead of parkour, I'd favor something like cultural dance or something like that. I also think he'd be able to earn money as an artist, but more favoring craft-stuff instead of painting or drawing.

Katara: Defense attorney, although sometimes she likes to sue big corporations for wrongful termination or environmental crimes.

Sokka: Mechanical engineer and computer scientist. He does a lot of contractor work building apps and websites to make ends meet while doing side-projects which he patents and tries to sell.

Suki: Point-guard in the WNBA.

Toph: Ex-heiress and personal trainer. She used to get Hollywood stars into shape for shirtless action roles but she was too abusive for their fragile egos and now mostly trains professional fighters. Her own fighting career ended with a ban for illegal attacks.

Zuko: He dropped out of law school to become a waiter and stage actor, but somehow ended up mayor of the city.

Azula: Attorney at a huge firm which represents health insurance companies, oil companies, social media companies, celebrities at the center of Me Too scandals, and former presidents accused of campaign-funding crimes. After her nervous breakdown, she becomes a novelist.

Ty Lee: Actress, vtuber, pop singer, martial arts champion, and advocate for animal charities.

Mai: Professional heiress. This leaves her a lot of time for hobbies like extreme sports, tutoring, illegal fight club, and solving mysteries.

Yue: Professional Royalty. She does a lot of charity work and has worked with some well-produced documentaries highlighting humanitarian and environmental crises.

Iroh: Retired military turned restaurant owner. This one's pretty easy.

Hello! Firstly, I love your The Avatar And The Fire Princess work. I read it so many times that I happen to remember some (if not all) lines from your work. I’m the same person who expressed my love for such great story of yours few weeks ago, I forgot that I hit the bottom ‘Ask anonymously’ when I sent it.

Do you think Azula and Lu Ten get along when he was alive? As in, what do you think their relationship was like? Does Azula liked Lu Ten or Does she hated him?

The tricky thing with Lu Ten is that we know so little about him. We have enough to get only a very general sense of what he was like, but headcanons have definitely been built on shakier ground. The big question I always have when making use of the character, is just how much interaction he actually had with the Ozai-side of the family. The fandom has speculated that he could have been as young as 16 when he died, and from what we had at the time, it wasn't an unreasonable guess. The RPG recently gave us a little bit more which indicates he must have been a bit older in order to have more of a military career, but as usual, official material is loathe to give us a real number.

So was he at home much after Azula was born? I think that's the fulcrum on which this question pivots, and I tend towards depicting him as away from home for much of Azula's memory. (My funny little idea of Mai having a betrothal to him is not incompatible with this. In fact, it gets a little less creepy if he barely ever sees Mai'n'Azula. Just a little.) And while I expect Lu Ten would want to try to bond with his cute little niece whenever he's around, Ozai would definitely try to isolate Azula from Iroh's side of the family and would try to keep her from forming any kind of bond with her cousin, and that's much easier is Lu Ten is barely around.

All it takes is Lu Ten to be out of sight during Azula's most formative years, and then she would naturally slot him into the usual Rival category that she puts Zuko, Iroh, Ursa, Azulon, the entire Earth Kingdom, all the Water Tribes, the spirits, and everyone else who does not bow to her and recognize her as their superior. So I can see her pretending to like him, but it would be feigned. And she might not even bother with that much. The RPG supports this with the reveal that Lu Ten was starting to question the Fire Nation's imperialist agenda, and I can't imagine he would be able to win Azula's respect if he ever expressed such thoughts in any way. After all, she has no respect for Iroh, even when he's a general actively doing an imperialism.

That said, I do enjoy the thought that Lu Ten has no idea she looks down on him and thinks she's his darling, charming niece. And she really struggles to hide just how Not Into It she is. And Zuko thinks they're both crazy.

You can't be. My time in the Avatar fandom couldn't possibly be more than three or four years. At most.

What do you mean kids not yet born when I started writing fanfic are now in college? Clearly someone is miscounting and my Real Mathematical Analysis minor is going to be very mad if it's me.

Hello! I just wanted to say how much I love ‘The Avatar and The Fire Princess’! It was such a joy to read your portrayal of Azula and Aang. You nailed it.

I remember finishing the story two years ago and thinking you might not continue it, so I was overjoyed to see the new update from my favorite author! The side stories are *chef kiss* they're absolute cinema and have added so much depth to this whole story.

Thank you so much! I'm really glad people have been enjoying the side-stories. (I have one more to post once it's done, but it doesn't have Aang or Azula in it. It's just about the setting.) I hope I'll have time in 2026 to start posting Volume 3 and finish the saga. It's been a really rewarding thing to write, as tough as it can be when I have to depict Azula in the throes of her darker times, and the reaction has been so encouraging.

If I don't get to Volume 3 in a reasonable amount of time, you have my permission to message me for the summary of the plot.
