This narrow park called Hagoromo Children’s Park was built on top of buried river (Izumi river) in Nishishinjuku in 1967. Tomorrow, they will start removing these equipment and make the pathway accessible to bikes. It is actually quite remarkable that the park remained as is this long, but still..... bye bye park. Park equipment on the buried river - 和泉川 - 暗渠 (ankyo). Hagoromo Children’s Park was built in 1967. In such narrow area, they created place for children to play on top of once flowing river. I just found out from @hondaso that this wonderful narrow park on a meandering path—暗渠 ankyo (buried river) is scheduled to be demolished at the end of this week. I’m heartbroken, because this was my favorite ankyo park. Say goodbye to these wonderful friends. I wonder what will become of them. #buriedrivers #暗渠 #park #tokyo #和泉川 😢😫

Happy Mother’s Day. Mother made this “ankyo” box. Ankyo (暗渠), buried river. Images outside the box is various streets that used to be rivers in Tokyo, inside images reveal flowing rivers. Images of buried rivers and flowing rivers were photographed in January of 2017 during my residency at Tokyo Wonder Site. This box was a collaboration with my mother who turned 81 years old last year, and recently finished a month long exhibit of her origami works. Tatekawa Kasenjiki Koen (Tatekawa River bed Park.) Not being used during the winter, I think. There were some park employees cleaning the river bed today. It takes quite a bit of effort to maintain the park. #tokyoriver #buriedrivers #followingtheburiedrivers #parkontopofriver (at 錦糸町)
