     Initial silence falls between them as he listens to her words. To some degree, they’re almost startling. Being helpful is kind of a new thing for him, as is people witnessing the better parts of him. ❛ Is this about to get into some kind of emotional speech or pep-talk or something? Because I don’t think I’m really set up to be made out as a hero. ❜ His eyes trail off and seek to distract himself for a brief moment. His fingers at his sides fiddle against his jeans, and he purses his lips nervously. Isaac’s not exactly accustomed to high expectations.

     ❛ You’re probably better off looking at what you have to offer. ❜ Surely, she has more of it than he does. Rolling his shoulders back, Isaac’s eyes look to hers. ❛ Someone like you sees the good in people. Those kinds of people have a lot you can give to others. ❜

     His fingers interlock as he lays them out on the table between them. Canting his head, Peter raises his brows somewhere between curiously and exasperatedly. Something tells him that he’s in for a scolding, and he’s never been a fan of lectures.

   ❛ Now, are you going to lay out my list of offenses? Or am I going to have to guess as to what I’ve done that seems to have offended you? ❜
