[ tangled ]: my muse snuggles with your muse and their arms and legs are tangled up @burnish-boss
|Long shifts are rough on the body. Even more so when the shift goes on longer than anticipated due to an untimely fire. He's glad he was there to help extinguish the flames, but he's even happier that it's over.
Slipping into his apartment and trudging across the carpet to his small room took the last bit of energy he had. He knows he's gross and probably has to eat, but right now, he just doesn't care. Galo plops face-first onto an unmade bed, ceasing to exist upon contact.
He doesn't know how long he's been asleep, but he knows something is different. Literally, his shoes are off. When did he take his shoes off?? He's not quite awake enough to figure much out, but there's a body attached to his. Oh, it's Lio. But isn't he gross? He totally had to smell like sweat and smoke. Whatever.
He's pretty sure Lio wasn't home when he got here, but Galo is glad he's back. He cracks open one eye to spy a familiar blonde, a sleepy smile pulling at his lips. He shifts his head to bury his face in Lio's hair. He smells nice.
[ hand ]: my muse kisses your muse’s hand and then presses it against their cheek @burnish-boss
|It's the weekend. They don't party much at all unless it's a super special occasion like someone's birthday or a holiday. This particular party was a celebration for Varis' birthday. The station was decorated with various colored balloons and ribbons. Pizza boxes were stacked high in the kitchen and the fridge was stocked with beer. The girls were mixing various cocktails for everyone and shots lined the table.
They're well into the party and Galo has been talked into taste-testing everything that leaves the kitchen. He's no lightweight due to previous drinking competitions, but he's been in there for some time now so he's got a really good buzz going on. There's one particular blonde he's been eyeing up, and with the encouragement of the girls, he marches right over to Lio, leaning against the wall in what he imagines is extremely smooth.
"Hey, feel these gloves." He offers his hand out to Look with a smug look. "Know what it's made of? Boyfriend material." Fuck yeah, he totally pulled it off- WOAH did Lio just kiss his hand? And now he's holding Galo's hand against his face? That line may have worked a little too well and Galo is nothing but red from the neck up to his hairline. He's forgotten how to talk and if he wasn't wearing a shirt he would probably be red everywhere else. Oh God, he is metaphorically on fire.
|Momma told him to be more careful! It's not like he meant to break the only wooden sword he had! He rummages around in his pockets, pulling out a scrap strip of fabric. With every bit of concentration he had, Galo gets to work on trying to tie his sword back together. Maybe momma can help him do a better job when he gets home for dinner.
After a few moments of struggling, he manages to tie the bandage in a knot. Galo steps back to admire his handiwork for a moment with a giant cheesy grin, but it falls with the sound of crying. Is somebody crying? He can't let someone be upset if he's going to be a knight one day!
Galo swipes up his prized toy from the ground, following the sobbing along the tall, concrete wall that seemed to go on forever in either direction. He spies a crack in the wall where the noise seems to be the loudest. With a deep breath, he cups his hands around his mouth and shouts.
"Hey! Is someone there? Are you okay?"
--
He remembers that day with unwavering clarity. He never expected to gain a lifelong penpal, yet here he was adding the finishing touches to a letter that had to be a good seven pages long. He's got so much to share with his friend of many years, especially since he hasn't been able to have time to send mail recently. He's been utterly exhausted with the last-minute preparations for his knighting that he's just been too busy to properly communicate.
Aw, fuck! He totally loses track of time, not realizing he'd have to run like a madman to the palace after bidding his mother goodbye for a little bit. He has just enough time to shove his letter through that crack in the wall and make it on time to meet the royal family. @burnish-boss
|An arm reaches out, slapping the sheets in an attempt to find his partner. To his disappointment, there's no Galo. The bed is cold, meaning he's been gone from the bed for quite some time. Figures he'd get called in on today of all days.
Lio pushes himself up into a sitting position, squinting against the light filtering through the blinds. He reaches up to wipe the crust from his eyes and to push his hair from his face. Ever since he'd become accustomed to not having to jump up and run at any time from freeze force, it's harder for his body to wake up now that it knows it's safe. It's almost as if it's trying to make up for lost time.
With a big yawn and a stretch to the stars, he plops his arms back down against the bed. His movements jostled Galo's pillow, hand handing on a small note. Lio turns, grabbing the small, folded paper. His name is scribbled on the top fold in Galo's rushed handwriting. He unfolds it to find a scribbled message in black ink.
There's breakfast in the microwave for you. Be sure to come by the station later! 3pm sharp. Don't be late!
Lio can't help but snicker at the little drawing in the corner of the note. It's such a Galo thing. It looks like he has plans for today instead of sitting around at home.
He goes through the motions of his morning routine; take a shower, brush his teeth, brush his hair, etc. There was indeed breakfast in the microwave as promised. A simple omelet with another note beside the plate.
I love you!
It's the simple things he appreciates about Galo. He's not sure why these little things make him so happy, but he swears he falls a little harder every time.
The morning passes uneventfully. Lio shows up to the station as requested a little early. No one is there to greet him at the door. The further in he goes, no one is in sight. It's the oddest thing, especially after he was asked to come. Maybe they're out on a call?

"Shut up! He's here!"
The room is pitch black. The moment Lio steps past the threshold and turns on the light, he's grabbed and lifted up into the air by none other than Galo himself.
"Happy Birthday!" Every single person in burning rescue shouted in surprise. Lucia and Aina toss small handfuls of confetti in Lio's direction. Guierra and Meis were even there, shouting in unison. Everyone rushes in for a large group hug, squishing together as much as physically possible. Varys plucks up several of them at a time, setting them back down gently.
"Here's to another year together!"

Happy birthday! The big ol' 20 is a big milestone! No more teens! And next year is the big old 21! (You start forgetting how old you are after this, take my word for it) You're gonna be busy for sure. Now, while I know it's been a short time of knowing you, I've never connected with anyone this quickly or this strongly. I couldn't pass up on an opportunity to let you know how thankful I am that you're in my life! This is my first time writing Lio! Do you think I nailed it? Here's to many more years of celebrating together! Go have some fun today, even if that's getting some good rest after a hard day or whatever makes you happy. Here's to you!
Love,
