🎞 #filmfriday 🎞 Night of the Eagle, also known as Burn, Witch, Burn!, is a 1962 British horror film directed by Sidney Hayers and a moral lesson that if you marry a witch, you should always heed her words! What I love about this movie is its sleek intelligence and poise. It keeps your attention with an eventful storyline, established atmosphere, brisk pace, sharp dialogue, and great acting. The film tells the tale of a skeptical, rational-minded college professor, Norman, who discovers his wife Tansy has been practicing witchcraft. He destroys her protective charms (like a complete moron), leaving the couple vulnerable to dark forces and, of course, a chain of disastrous events unfold (and this is what happens when you mess with witches, Norm!). Peter Wyngarde and Janet Blair are captivating as Norman and Tansy. Although the movie is not as aesthetically dramatic as some of my other film Friday picks, it still captures a moody air of mystery and an ominous ambiance. There is a great buildup of suspense from the very beginning all the way to the thrilling climax. I love the ending so much! What I really appreciate about Night of the Eagle, though, is its realistic portrayal of many witchcraft and folk magic customs (give or take a couple theatrics for drama). I really like that the movie touches upon poppets, graveyard dirt, and image magic, plus much more.
