Burpee Museum Paleofest 2026 ❤️

So I went to the Burpee Museum in Rockford Illinois this past Saturday(2/3/2024) and found that Jane was missing some things...

I went up front to ask the people at the desk what gives and this is what I found.

When Jane was first found there was originally a belief that she was her own species, Nanotyrannus. It was relatively swiftly discounted in favor of Jane being simply a juvenile Tyrannosaurus Rex. However during the end of 2023 there's been a resurgence of the Nanotyrannus theory. When I was visiting it turns out there was a team taking the casts of the fossils used for the display down for study, perhaps in reaction to this.

I also found out that they are now in the process of 3D scanning the casts so that they can make a 3D scan duplicate of the skeleton to be able to share about with other museums and researchers.

So that's pretty cool. Figured that some people may find this interesting.
