“Quit smiling at me, I can’t stop messing up my sentences when you look at me like that.” 🧡

Luke had been writing his speech for Michael and Crystal’s wedding for weeks, as the wedding date was drawing near it was needless to say he was stressing out. He knew he didn’t have to speak at the wedding but Michael was one of his best friends and he'd regret not speaking.

He didn’t understand how he could sing deeply personal and emotional songs to thousands of fans for every tour but the thought of him speaking in front of friends caused his anxiety to flare up. You did everything you could to reassure him that no matter what he wrote Michael would love it.

He had been rehearsing his final draft of his speech in the bathroom mirror for what seemed like hours and you thought it would be better for him to rehearse in front of you instead of the mirror.

You opened the door and somehow you had completely forgotten he was just in his boxers and a tank top, “How’s it going handsome?”

“I’m almost done! Did you come in here to check on me?” He smiled at you as his blue eyes met yours.

“I did! How is the speech coming along?” You smiled before you pressed a soft kiss to his newly grown out scruff. 

“Do you want to hear what I have so far?” He asked nervously as he ran his fingers through his curls.

“Of course, I know it will be amazing.” You assured as you leaned against the door staring in his eyes.

He looked down at his phone and then at you as he cleared his throat before looking in your eyes, “As most of you know, Michael and I have been best friends since we were kids. We’ve traveled the world together meeting amazing people along the way, I-I’ll never f-forget when he met Crystal,” His eyes left yours as he coughed before starting again, “We’ve n-never seen him so h-happy.” He cleared his throat causing you to giggle. “Quit smiling at me, I can’t stop messing up my sentences when you look at me like that.”

You felt your cheeks flush at his comment, “I’m just looking at you, baby,”

“Exactly! Close your eyes!” He teased setting his phone down on the bathroom sink before walking up to you.

You held his face as his hands found a home on your waist, “You’re supposed to speak in front of hundreds of people and you can’t handle me smiling at you?”

He chuckled before his soft lips met yours in a fleeting kiss “Those hundreds of people aren’t you sweetheart.”

Your heart skipped a beat like it always did when he said something that reminded you how much you loved him. He decided to take a break from working on his speech and spend the rest of the night with you. He held you close as you cuddled on the bed with Petunia watching T.V.

The boys were finally touring again and had been gone for two weeks and Luke finally had a moment of free time to make a facetime call. As soon as you answered and your face appeared on the screen his face took on a soft characteristic, eyes drooping slightly as he smiled, “Have you always been this beautiful?” He stated, in lieu of a hello.

Conversation went on from there, giving him little updates and sharing stories that needed the full range of emotion and expression that a simple text would be unable to convey. 

At this point he had moved outside the bus into the parking lot, crouched down and leaning into the bus’ storage bay, digging through his suitcase. “Babe?” he started, interrupting his own earlier thought, “Have you seen my hoodie?”

“Which one? You have like, a bunch.”

“The cream friend of friends one...I could’ve sworn I packed it and...” he glanced at his phone screen, frowning, “Is there a reason you’re blushing like that?”

“Noooo....”

“You’re wearing it aren’t you?”

You hummed, using a sleeve covered hand to gently push Petunia’s sleeping head off of your chest, revealing the logo. He sighed, zipping his suitcase back up and slowly backing out from under the bus. “I guess I’ll just borrow Cal’s then. Can’t be mad though, it looks so cute on you.”
