A cousinly pep talk.
“Are you sure it’s all straight?” John is standing in front of a mirror, continuously adjusting the bow tie on his neck and the lapels of his suit. He feels suddenly out of place in it, like this isn't supposed to be made for him. But the last two months of fitting and refitting were tediously spent making sure it was made just for him. But, that doesn’t stop him from fretting. Jane is beside him in a moment, adjusting the tie and giving his chest a gentle pat.
“John, I swear you look fine! Stop looking for missed details! Now shut up and let me put your corsage on you.”
John turns, a small frown on his face while he lets her pin the flower into place, more lilies that look lovely up against his suit. He gives a deep sigh and lets his hands stop fidgeting in front of him, looking at his cousin with a soft and thankful look.
“Thank you, Jane.. I’m just nervous.. Like, I know we are already technically married, but still! The actual ceremony is always a huge deal, not to mention this whole thing was planned in like two months so! It’s hurried and sloppy and..” Jane has a hold of his face, forcing him to stop babbling, “John, it’s fine.. It looks beautiful out there, I made sure of it.. I had to stop Dave from causing shit, but it looks beautiful, this will be beautiful, and you look dashing as ever.”
John is about to speak up before the door to their room pushes open, and speak of the devil, Dave looks through.
“So, dude, we are ready.. I am rallying the masses, who are ready to start this shit for you.. Also, I’m still pissed you get to marry a fucking literal bara, have I said that?’ “Yes Dave, you have... Okay, I’m ready, I think.” Jane smiles, reaches up to brush her cousin’s hair back into place before giving him a tight hug around his shoulders. He returns it, happy for the comfort she is giving him. With a hand on his back, John can hear the piano start to play and the wooden door to the room open. Sen Hue is on the other side, his father giving a smile and a crooked elbow. Jane hands him the flowers before tucking the veil into his hair the rest of the way. Nervousness be damned, John smiles the moment he steps a foot down the aisle.
