Just growled out loud all over a packed rush-hour bus. Like, I've read this book more than a dozen times. I know Tom hits Dickie with an oar and blood becomes an unexpected issue. I've seem Plein Soleil 8 times, and Minghella's adap more often than I'm comfortable admitting. I can summon with zero effort the image of Jude Law with that bomb-awesome gash gag filling up red down his face, one of the few things in that overly sentimental version which is exactly as described by Ms Highsmith. What I mean, it wasn't shock. I just love him so much. He's like a hopeless scumbag cousin to me.
