Apakah kamu rindu jalanan yang ramai?
.
Do you miss the busy streets?
.
Manquez-vous des rues animées?
The view from the rear of the bus.
People rushing to appear on time in their workplace.
Colorful, yet so similar at every level.
The music they are, perhaps, playing in their head.
Each and every one of them enjoy but hate this moment at the same time.
Contradictions are part of their daily life.
Cars are officially banned on 14th Street. Is this the beginning of banning private cars on Manhattan's busiest thoroughfares? Last week courts finally approved the city's plan to speed up busses on 14th Street by banning cars – the policy went into effect this week. Cars are now banned on 14th Street between Third and Ninth Avenues from 6 AM to 10 PM daily, with the exception of busses, trucks and emergency vehicles. Cars can drop a passenger off, or make a delivery, but can only travel one block, then must make the first right turn. Left lanes are banned at all times. The ban, which has been in the works for two years, was supposed to go into effect over the summer but was stalled due to lawsuits from local residents arguing there was a lack of environmental review for the impact on nearby residential streets. The city hopes the ban will ease congestion and speed up busses during the L train shutdown. After the first-week, riders stated the 14th Street buses – known for moving at a notorious 4.5 miles per hour – were moving much faster, some faster than walking. Is this the solution to solving the NYC's bus problems? SHOULD THE CITY BAN CARS ON 14th Street? The 14th Street busway that was supposed to go into effect today and would have banned cars on a portion of 14th Street has been stalled due to a last-minute appeal in the state's appellate court. Last week, a judge had lifted an injunction against the plan, giving it the go-ahead to start this morning. Originally planned for July 1st, the ban on cars – which has been in the works for two years – on 14th Street between Third and Ninth Avenues would ease congestion and speed up busses during the L train shutdown. The 18-month pilot project would be in place every day, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Cars would be able to pick-up and drop off passengers on 14th, but would have to immediately turn right at the next intersection and be unable to make a left turn. The fight against the busway came from a lawyer representing a coalition of local block associations, arguing a lack of environmental review on the impact on nearby residential streets. A judge gave the project the green light last week but opponents filed a last-minute appeal, again putting the busway on hold.
