i’ve said this a million times in the gc and i’ve said it to reed specifically a million more but like ... i really, truly, with all my guts, hate the fandom interpretation of him. i hate it. i hate that he’s either a) depicted as a soft, sweet sweater boy, who is quiet and overwhelmingly kind and wants to stay out of the pranks (: like .. no. remus may have been a prefect but you bet your ass he used that to the marauder’s advantage. that he was very sneaky and sly about it. he definitely used it to get them out of trouble. he wasn’t soft or quiet in school. he was best friends with them. he was loud, rebellious, mischievous. sure, he’s kind, and that’s not something i plan to ever take away ... but he fit in with them because he was like them. i also hate b) this is an interpretation by those who clearly hate them, but he’s not.. a terrible person either. he’s made mistakes as much as anyone else and he’s done very bad things in school but he did grow up. he did develop and try to have a good impact on people. the thing is, you don’t have to put a character as purely good or purely bad. he has his motives like everyone else. he has his cruelty towards peter and his readiness to kill him after his betrayal, his wrongdoings when he was younger, and you have his kindness towards students, his need to be brave and fix the world. these all exist within the same person because it is the same person. he’s complex and that’s something the fandom utterly throws out the window.
