Thought about something I haven’t in awhile and realized it might be helpful to others who need it if I posted it here:
When the Bible talks about “honoring” one’s parents, ancient world concepts of bringing honor are *absolutely* inclusive of the concept of being an improvement over previous generations. So if you’ve ever felt like you can’t keep the 10 commandments because your parents are abusive or that’s been part of a background of religious abuse, know that being a better person than they were is absolutely 100% a valid way of shaking off that baggage and a valid way to interpret that scripture.
