i can’t find the post but i’ve been chewing over whether i think whalita is a genfic or shipfic and i dont think i could classify it as either right now. there’s too much happening and toxic yuri is only one part of it and i genuinely love that about it. love stories that are like sure these two have something going on but there’s even more happening outside of that. it really grounds them in the story itself. griddlehark should kiss tho
THANK YOU. romance intrigues me as a vessel for character relationships in general and the many shapes that love can take and how it effects people. but the musy gushy handholding "chiding my wife for not eating properly" sloppy makeouts drives me a little nuts. im fully admitting im not into that. SO many fics have such cool premises only to get distracted with feelings jams and im just like HELLO. GO BACK TO THE [idk. zombie apocalypse. house swap mechanics. whatever au youve cooked up and then ignored to write kissing]
and the kissing and shit isn't BAD its just irritates ME SO MUCH. SPECIFICALLY this is MY L. a decent example is the fic Gideon The Sixth and its sequel Six To Nine. i can see exactly WHY it would be popular and what exactly people can get out of it, i just dont think it goes far enough; the premise is incredibly ripe for drama, especially between gideon who has to play second fiddle to the impenetrable duo of the sixth, despite palamedes' insistence he views them equally, and harrow whos grown up totally isolated AND has to run her house solo. like her fucking social skills would be SHOT shed be a DOG SHIT WIFE and i am INTO THAT. but thats not the story the author wants to tell and you know what i respect that.
to me a lot of fics are less about the stories themselves and more like, just playing dress up; putting on a fancy costume and rigging elaborate sets so you can get to The Kiss. most people arent reading a "griddlehark grow up and have a daughter" fic to actually see those two grapple with how theyd probably be terrible mothers, they want to see gideon kiss harrow on the forehead and tell her shes doing a good job
in summation im glad everyone likes The Apartment as like, a story and understands that harrow and gideons relationship is more of a vessel to explore the themes rather than being The Point. as for the kiss idk if youre gonna get it i change my mind a lot but if you do it definitely wont be any good
