Reager didn’t have many days off. He often found himself at a loss, and tried to do something new, like go to a new shop, or on one unfortunate occasion, get lost in the forest with a certain delivery boy. But it wasn’t every day he had time to himself. It was a bit too early for the other shops to be opening yet, so without anywhere to explore, the man had decided to bake.
It was a nice and needed change, cooking for himself. He was always running from here to there, cooking the same things over and over again; when he had a chance to bake something for himself, to take his time where he wasn’t exhausted after a day’s work, it was always a blessing. He had a radio placed on the windowsill playing some gentle accordion music, and his hands were at work.
Moving around this kitchen had been awkward at first, because he hadn’t known where anything was, but after making a system, he moved around it as though it were an extension of his own body. He moved here and there, tossing little bits of this and that into a bowl, and then whisking it carefully. Days like this, where he could take his time, were his favorite. It was so peaceful and calm; something he craved often and didn’t get to have.
Once the batter was done and in the oven to be a light and fluffy vanilla cake, he was working on making a fresh whipped cream with no added sugar; overly sweet things were too much for him, so his toppings were more rich and creamy than super sweet. He worked it to a creamy fluff he could work with, then took out the cake and let it sit at the window sill for a while.
A few cats came to check it out, but after Reager would give them little bits of fish from the fridge, they left it alone. The cake soon finished cooling, and he moved it to the table, where he carefully cut the pieces so he had three heart shaped cakes that were all the same size. He would put one layer of cream, then fresh sliced strawberries, and another layer of cream. Then the next cake piece was put on and he repeat the process.
He took a knife and carefully moved it in three circles around the cake, removing the extra cream from the sides and then putting it in the freezer for ten minutes. When he took it out, the cream had hardened slightly and set in place so that it wouldn’t drip over into the light frosting he was about to put over it. He did that first, covering the whole thing with an off white creamy frosting, then placed some in a bag with a tip at the end to make a nice little pattern around the edges.
When that was done, he got an even smaller tip and put a little bit of red dye in the frosting to make it pink, and decorated the cake carefully with intricate designs.
He was so absorbed in his work, he didn’t notice the door of the restaurant jingle from the little bell above the door, signifying that someone was coming in.
((MY PRINCESS ♥)) ... ... [Blinks, startling himself upon seeing the green haired young miss walk into the castle.] P-Princess Frey! [Exclaims with a wide smile on his face.] Princess - goodness, where have you been?! Clorica, Volkanon and myself have been worried sick about your safety!
/huffs/ Yeesh, you guys didn't have to worry! I'm a grown woman, not some fragile porcelain doll. Besides, it's only been a couple of days since I've been gone. But if you must know, I've been out camping in Yokmir Forest's opening. I'm sorry I didn't tell you though, it was kind of an impromptu thing. /waves a hand/ And yeah, I know there are monsters and stuff there -- yadda, yadda -- but I had Ophelia with me to keep me safe and sound. /pulls down gloves/ See? Not a scratch.
Ah- but how've you been? /beams/ It hasn't been long, but I've missed you! You have no idea how hard it was to get up without you dragging me out of bed. And how are Clorica and Volkanon doing? I do trust that Volkanon's been keeping things in order here, as he always does, yes? /looks around the castle and nods/ Everything seems to be neat and tidy, as usual.
