butt-zombie-butt replied to your post “I can’t believe Steven Grant Rogers personally set fire to the home we...”
that letter literally sealed the deal that MCU Steven is not good for me. Half assed apology and acceptance of responsibility while still making a point to very passively aggressively jab at Tony over their differences. >:/ That's not how Steven Rogers would/should act when admitting a wrong.
!!! see this is my struggle because i adore steven with all of my heart but. yikes. he was replaced with his uncommunicative condescending asshole brother stove rodgers in this movie. which i think is probably because it,,,wasn’t actually a captain america movie? really? if he’d gotten his trademarked captain america speech or literally any big moments to explain his side other than “i think we’re doing fine, 117 countries need to accept that i know what’s best for them, we can’t save everyone and also bucky is really important” that would have been good!!
i am deeply grateful for all of the extremely high quality tony content in this movie but i also really would have appreciated them making it into an actual cap movie so i wasn’t Exhausted by the halfway mark wondering when i was going to find out why steve is so sure that he knows what he’s doing short of Stubborn Assholery??? like he was making his choices for understandably irrational and deeply emotional reasons but the narrative very much wanted me to believe that he just Knew Better than Everyone Else and was the Only One Who Truly Understood and like. nah, dude
“it’s my fault” “no wanda it’s my fault!!” “it’s both our faults” “fair. but nothing should happen like there shouldn’t be an investigation or a hearing or a chat on the couch with tony or anything re: this because quite frankly people just Die Sometimes and sometimes when you’re breaking international laws they die in countries you’re not even supposed to be in!! and that’s fine!!! just happens!!”
like if that letter had seemed sincere i would have been like “okay it was a shitty situation and i guess he tried a little” but it was like,,,,,,,, “i’ve had it worse than you, hope someday you understand why i was right”. that’s. that’s shitty and condescending and i needed rhodey to pop up in the corner of my screen and yell “dangerously arrogant” in that moment and hooo boy that letter did no one any favours
