*By My Hands - My paintings are crafted by my hands only and are not farmed out to others to do the work. All the prep work from cutting, sanding and finishing are done by me. I normally put the hand carved butterfly stitches in before I paint but sometimes I jump the gun and paint before I stabilize the wood. The wood I'm painting on is monkey pod wood, a readily plentiful wood in Hawaii. The stitch is made of Koa, a rare local hard wood. After carving out the stitch, fitting it and then gluing it, I have to carve it down to flat. I use a Dremel very carefully to get as close as I can to the monkey pod wood but do the final sanding by hand. I'll end up sanding off some of my initial painting but the end product will be worth it.
