Steve: You’re a good-lookin’ guy!
Danny: Back atcha, buddy. Your eyelashes, they go for like miles.
Steve: I’ve heard that. Yeah, I’m what’s known as ‘man pretty.’

butterflyweb requested: Chin out of his depth with Joan.
If you would be interested, I've been craving a gif set of chin with Joan. Only time on the show we've ever seen chin completely out of his depth lolol. Love this blog so much!
ooh yess i can do that! i’ll try to have it posted soon!!
if you’re ever bored and in the mood to share headcanons…what’s yours regarding thorin’s attitude towards thranduil pre-dragon? i can’t help but think that a betrayal cuts deepest from someone you blindly trusted—thorin doesn’t even consider that the elfking won’t help them when he calls for aid, and he seems genuinely taken aback/uncomfortable with thror taunting thranduil with the gems. it’s giving me all kind of thoughts about thorin once holding thranduil in awe. bebe!thorin mini-crush, perhaps? :)

This was a really cool ask I got in my inbox as fanmail so I couldn't respond to it properly without copying it. (Btw, I AM going through all my asks I swear, just at a glacial rate as I also try to write fic and avoid mindlessly scrolling through Tumblr for hours)
To answer the question, I completely agree with this ask. It's weird to say because I've written a couple "Thorinduil" fics now, but I really only see the ship in two ways: really fucked up hate-ship where these two bring the absolute worst out of each other (to the point of actual abuse), and what you describe here with young, pre-dragon Thorin having a crush on Thranduil.
I absolutely agree that there is a strangely personal element of Thorin's hatred towards Thranduil that speaks of disappointment and a sense of intimate betrayal. The other dwarves like Dain and Dwalin certainly hate Thranduil, but they speak of his betrayal in broader terms ("--Who wishes nothing but ill upon my people!" and then the deleted scene with Dwalin confronting Thranduil). Whereas we have that shot, as you said, in AUJ EE where Thorin is perplexed by Thror's treatment of Thranduil, and how Thror seems to smirk to have made an enemy of the Elvenking. Not only perplexed, but fearful and alarmed. Until that point he seems very comfortable in the proceedings, even at peace with the idea of dealings with the Greenwood.
So yeah, I believe it's a very plausible scenario: that young Thorin viewed Erebor's Greenwood allies as just that: allies. People who were there to support Erebor if ever there was a time of need. As such Thorin viewed Thranduil with respect and perhaps more, really it's not hard to imagine a crush at all. Then to have that crush dashed in the most brutal way, this vaunted Elven Lord with his great armies, and noble bearing, and perfect hair literally turning his back on Thorin's beloved people. If Thorin had a crush I think he would have ascribed a lot of of positive qualities to Thranduil, qualities he finds important: honor, loyalty, beauty, and courage in battle. Thorin may have heard stories of Thranduil's past heroism in battle, and having never been tested himself at that point, may have looked up to Thranduil as a result, seeing him as a hero and a living legend.
Thranduil's betrayal would have struck to the heart of this, revealing this perfect being Thorin built up in his head to be the lowest of the low - faithless, cold, malicious, and lacking all honor. It would explain a great deal of Thorin's raw fury and hurt towards Thranduil. Whether or not Thranduil ever interacted with young Thorin, or gave him further reason for this crush is up to the fic writer in my opinion, but there is tons of evidence that Thorin had a very high opinion of Thranduil, unusually so for a dwarf (he literally expected Thranduil so single-handedly turn back the dragon and save Erebor), and had those very personal hopes and dreams dashed in the most horrifying and brutal of ways. I personally don't think Thranduil ever cared, or ever singled out Thorin as notable. I think Thranduil finds Thorin's hatred to be a bit of a joke, not differentiating Thorin at all from other dwarves and not realizing that at one point Thorin differentiated Thranduil from other elves, maybe even defended Thranduil to his grandfather. (I can easily imagine Thorin telling Thror that the trick with the necklace was unworthy of Durin's Folk.) So Thranduil may not even realize the sheer extent to which he lost a potential ally with his callousness, may not even care ("sensitive" Thranduil does not ring true to me, personally. I think in the movies he's been an asshole ever since his wife died and literally does not see or take note of the emotions of others unless forced to). If Thorin grew up hearing about the faithlessness of elves, and denied these tales with Thranduil as an example of an elf who does care about dwarves, because he's an ally of Erebor, and because he has faced dragons in battle and is a great hero, only to have every bad thing he's heard about the elves come back full force in the face of Thranduil's apathy.... it would go a long way to explaining just how fierce and personal his hatred towards elves is, because it really really is greater than the hatred we see in any other dwarf and absolutely speaks to a disappointed crush, in my opinion.
Sorry this got so long ^_^;;
