Button Eyed Dolls and Gotham Bats
This is for my Coraline in Gotham crossover idea! (OG Post) It consumed my every thought so I thought I would share part of what I have. Take it or leave it because it will probably be all y'all get from me.
------
Coraline was puzzled, to say the least. Last week she got a lead on a Beldam in Gotham. She had just finished a shapeshifter case in New York and headed to a bar that others who dabbled in the occult frequented. As the bartender poured her a shot of Tequila She overheard someone say “button eyes” and almost toppled over in shock. It felt like she was back in the other world staring down at black buttons as the monster pretending to be her mother tried to coax her into staying there forever.
Wasting no time Coraline started searching for who dug up that Relic of a memory she tried to keep buried. Forgetting about whatever drinking she was going to partake in.
There, a few tables away from the bar sat two men. One was older, about 59, with a short mustache, and sounded like he'd been chain smoking for 20 too many years. The other was much younger, if she had to place an age, she says 26.
With much more confidence than she had, she approached the table. Grabbing a chair on her way over Coraline swung the chair around and sat in it backwards.
“What's this about button eyes?” she kept her voice cheerful but it certainly had an edge to it.
Never in all of her 10 years of investigation into the supernatural had she ever gotten a lead on an active belam. It wasn't like she didn't look. She poured hours upon hours into researching what happened to her, and if others experienced the same thing she did. The closest thing she found was an old 17th legend. Called that damn thing a Beldam. That's what Coraline took to calling it too. It wasn't quite the same, the Beldam was depicted as a witch that took the life force of children to stay young, not some otherworldly creature that tried to sew buttons on kids' eyes that are children.
The only reason Coraline connected the two was the way they lured kids in. Took the form of someone the child trusted, gave gifts, and promises of a better life if they just let her in.
It ached in familiarity. Even if the other mother wasn’t a Beldam it was something similar and that’s all that mattered.
The younger of the two spoke first. Clearly put off by her sudden appearance, “uh, nothing much, just that some random dolls with button eyes started popping up of missing children in Gotham. I was asking Charles here if he heard about it.”
That's when the older one-Charles, spoke up, “Why? Know something about it?” He did not hide his suspicion, which she supposes is fair.
“I might, something similar popped up in Southern Oregon a while back.”
The young man shot her a look, “Something as in something supernatural?”
Coraline just nodded. She wasn't going to explain. Charles took a moment to assess her before he asked,
“Know what it is?”
Coraline took a pause, “Not entirely, my working theory is a Beldam. Even that doesn’t quite fit.”
The younger of the two scoffed, “You think a witch did this.”
“Jordan, let the women speak.”
Coraline shrugged, pulled out her wallet, slammed it on the table, and pushed it so that both the men could see it. An old picture of young Coraline holding a button-eye doll was there. Her mother allegedly took the picture of her but Coraline has no memory of posing with the doll at all. In fact, she nearly screamed in fear when she first found it. She almost burned it. Now it was a reason to keep looking for answers. A way to remind herself she wasn’t crazy. That the other mother wasn't done with twisted nightmares like her parents and doctors want her to think.
“Did the dolls look anything like this?” She said letting the seriousness overtake her voice.
The way Jordan sucked in his breath told Coraline all she needed to know. Charles took one look and the photo and then at her,
“You know what happened to those kids.” It wasn’t a question.
With a nod, Coraline placed her wallet back in her pocket, “I was one of those kids.”
“Do- do you know if they are still alive?” Jordan stutters out.
She took a deep breath, “If all that’s left is a doll then it’s probably too late, but I think I know how to stop more victims.”
She met both of their eyes, “I need you to tell me what you know.”

After 4 months time is complete I loved making his armor but definitely don't want to do it again 😂. Any way took some family photos will probably try and take some photos of all the boys at some point.
Hello it's been awhile. Unfortunately I've have some things come up and my blog had to be placed on the back burner I haven't been able to work on anything and won't be able to for the foreseeable future. On a brighter note I have made a wild plush that I will be putting on my shop he will be the last thing on there before I close it for awhile. Hope everyone is have an amazing 2023 and thanks for having fun on this blog with me.🙂
He's done!!! I love him even more now look at him all ready to wander off.
