Hell yeah! New boiler suit!
So Tumblr, I have officially started vet school! Week one includes knowing these bad boys inside out. Anatomical directions. Very useful for explaining quickly and accurately where a wound is over the phone to other vets, or describing where an inscision should be made. I hope my notes are clear enough!
Head wise rostal is towards the nose with caudal towards the ears. Body wise, cranial is towards the head with caudal towards the tail. Dorsal means to the top of the body with ventral meaning the bottom of the body trunk. Proximal means towards the body trunk and distal means away from the body trunk. Medial is towards the mid-line of the body with lateral being away from the mid-line. Paw-wise, dorsal means away from the palm and palmar means towards the palm. With the hind feet plantar means towards the sole.
There are also 'planes' in which scans an be taken. In my drawing the blue planes are called transverse planes. They divide cranial from caudal, and limb wise proximal from distal. The green plane is the dorsal plane dividing dorsal from ventral. The yellow plane is the sagital plane and divides the animal in to left and right.
I have a practical session on these terms tomorrow so will come back with even more information then! x
