Kristy Watches Buffy: Season 5: Episodes 17-22
Woah hey so yeah, still failing at the Buffy updates ever since I’ve gotten disgustingly, lovingly obsessed. (i’m actually almost done with season six now, but i thought I would separate that post from the rest of this one)
Angel visited Buffy after her mother died (AND THEY KISSED). I’m glad their relationship has turned into this really great friendship. Like, they had that chew each other out and hurt all the time period, but I feel like they’ve softened into friends. And he was there when she really, really needed someone who wasn’t her family, or immediate friends, or spike
Willow and Tara had a fight, and shortly afterwards, Glory sucked out tara’s brain, which made willow PISSED. Which was good. But their fight was about willow using too much magic, and i think tara was in the right.
The whole latter portion of this season gets so dark, much to the praise of the writers, and the breaking of my heart. It seems like thing after thing after thing keeps going wrong (buffy’s mom dies, tara’s brain gets sucked, giles almost dies on the roadtrip, dawn gets captured, glory is seemingly indestructible), and rightly, near the end of the season, buffy goes all catatonic because she can’t bear it all. I’m really glad they showed how overwhelming darkness can be. And buffy has dealt with SO much of it.
In the end, Buffy beats Glory (and the merging of dimensions) by sacrificing herself. At the end of the season, the very last thing you see is her limp body and her grave stone.
CLIFF HANGER.
Also, significant because the show was moving from the WB to a different network, so a lot of people thought buffy was entirely over. over the course of the summer, the writers had to be super intentional about letting everyone know they were just switching networks, not actually going of the air
Overall, good season that got really dark, and only gets darker in the next season
