ok. long post about overall thoughts on Ep N arc (that wound up mostly just being about N 😓 )

so this is one of those arcs where it’s a lot of Cool Stuff happening that is a little cooler and seems more cohesive when you’re younger, but i was very fond of the arc when i was a kid so i’m still fond of it. (CONTEXT: i made a whole, like, post-story when i was 12/13 of it where the shadow triad showed up and broke ghetsis out of jail so then n came back & was like ‘hey i know i said we were leaving but ghetsis broke out of jail :(‘ and he travels with ash and the others again and team rocket is there and giovanni is trying to summon zekrom or something. unfortunately i never wrote anything down so i don’t really remember the details anymore but i remember how fun it was to work on it in my head.)

so, i already talked about this in a different post (link) but i have always liked how the trio seem so fascinated by N, both because of and in spite of how different his views are from them. Ash, especially, seems to think he’s really interesting, which is probably because of the aforementioned ‘fate of heroes of truth and ideals that’s only half-explored’ which is also why he’s the one to confidently declare N to be a friend of their’s.

and then N is also someone who takes everything upon himself. this definitely seems to be, like… he’s trying to repent for the actions of Team Plasma and other humans, stuff that wasn’t actually his fault but he seems to feel like it’s his fault because of how him and his sisters were manipulated by Ghetsis and stuff. LIKE the main reason why anime N is interesting is because he’s BW2 N but without the same life experience and influence from the player character that games N has, so he’s still trying to make his way around the world and learn the truth of it but doesn’t necessarily have the same toolset as games N. if that makes sense. like he hasn’t had the time to be in the world before Reshiram showed up, unlike the games. so he has to figure out what it’s like in the outside world & then there’s also Anthea and Concordia who have purposely stayed sheltered away, which is a whole other can of worms. because like, obviously going out and meeting other people and being exposed to new viewpoints is a necessity for life, and sometimes it might hurt, but ultimately making new experiences is important. so they stay behind at their little medicine house, because they feel like they already know all the pain the world has to offer, but there’s still so much to discover!

but then he gets to see nice things like the Virbank Harbor Patrol and Charizard and learns that maybe there’s more to life and whatever through spending time with people who have chosen to live their lives alongside Pokémon, rather than trying to constantly make it up to Pokémon for the deeds of other people. (to put it more succinctly N is living like that image with the silhouette with the gun. “sorry for being human” “some crimes can be never forgiven”)

but then like. well actually i’m going to talk about the Events at the White Ruins in a different post this one is just about N now i guess.
