Manchester United announce Michael Carrick testimonial match

To mark his 11 years with the Reds, Manchester United will be given a testimonial match on 04 June 2017. At the request of the vice-captain, all proceeds will be distributed to chosen charities through the newly-created Michael Carrick Foundation.

The testimonial will feature a match between a Manchester United 2008 XI and Michael Carrick All-Stars, to be played at Old Trafford. Confirmed players on the United team include Edwin Van Der Sar, Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes, and Ryan Giggs. The All-Stars will feature Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, and Michael Owen.

Manchester United starting XI to face Southampton FC

Ander Herrera returns from suspension to his midfield role alongside Paul Pogba, while Michael Carrick makes the bench in United’s cup final squad against Southampton. Wayne Rooney also features in the squad, though Henrikh Mkhitaryan does not.

Ibrahimovic scores two as United win the EFL Cup final over Southampton

It’s a Super Sunday for United in today’s EFL Cup Final!

Manchester United go into their eighth League Cup final with the chance to win their first trophy of the season, today at Wembley. The Reds have five wins on the bounce, the last of which was a cagey, 1-0 win against AS Saint- Étienne in the Europa League. They face a determined Southampton side, who recently trounced Sunderland 0-4 in the League and beat Liverpool 2-0 on aggregate to reach the final.

Coming off the latest injury update, Michael Carrick, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Phil Jones and Wayne Rooney all still traveled to London with the team, though it is not yet known whether they will feature in the matchday squad. Ander Herrera is set to return from suspension.

The match will be refereed by Andre Marriner. KO is at 1630 GMT.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Tyrone Mings charged by FA with violent conduct

Following their clash in last Saturday’s Manchester United - AFC Bournemouth match, the English FA has retrospectively charged both Tyrone Mings and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for violent conduct.

Mings stamped on Ibrahimovic’s head after the latter had fallen at the edge of the box, and in the subsequent corner, the Swede retaliated by elbowing the Bournemouth player in the face.

Both players have until 1800 GMT, Tuesday, to respond to the charge.

Ibrahimovic is likely to face a standard three-match ban, which will see him miss United’s FA Cup quarterfinal match against Chelsea on 14 March, as well as the Premier League matches against Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion. He will remain available for the Europa League match against FC Rostov.

Mings, however, could face an increased ban for the offense. According to th FA statement, they have “submitted a claim that the standard punishment [...] is ‘clearly insufficient’.”
