He’s standing between Will and the woods, watching— watching for anything at all. Yes, yes he saw something move too but he’s not sure what it was exactly. “Go back inside, Will.” A safety precaution, would much rather handle this issue on his own besides put Will’s life in danger.

It’s cold, perhaps not unrealistically cold for October but it’s still cold— and while their relationship is still strained, Billy refusing to talk about what happened the weeks leading up to July fourth and refusing to acknowledge anything that happened afterwards, and Will being open about everything that had happened to him. Two wildly different ways of coping but Billy guesses that silence between them is better than yelling.
The kitchen table has fabric strewn across it, as much as Billy refused and argued that he would not dress up it was at least something to do and if he never wore the damn costume he’d keep it in the back of his closet as a ‘maybe one day’ kind of thing.
“Pass me that.” It’s the only words Billy spoke the whole night and he’s talking about the ashtray that sits on Will’s left, and he gives a kind of gentle smile that lights up his eyes although any emotion in them is bare. That’s when it happens— the lights flicker and Billy narrows his eyes. A fluke, the logical explanation is that it’s just a storm in the area but outside is too quiet— too fucking quiet.
Another flicker— once, twice. Almost as if something is mocking them. And then— they cut off completely. Billy stands, making his way towards his bedroom to grab something— anything that would protect the two from what is assumed to be danger. But Billy can feel it too— the cold, the mocking, all the signs that it’s coming— that something is coming.
