#byler analysis?

Okay holy half formed thought but I just gotta get this out there:

I see a lot of byler posts and one thing I don't think I've ever seen someone point out is that no matter how much they say "it always is" up to mike and will, it kinda isn't? A vast majority of the time, it's up to the group or El. I'm actually not sure you can say it's ever been up to Will and Mike as a duo. Sure they play major roles and often work together. But ultimately even season 2 isn't exclusively "up to them".

What I find interesting about this is that it says something important about how they feel about and view the past - since they both agree on this point.

The way this is worded sounds like they kind of exist in a bubble separate from everyone else, which is 1000% the dynamic in ST2 right? It's will and Mike first, then the rest of the party. Both communication-wise and from a plot and story perspective. But in seasons 1 and 3 you don't really have that. For one reason or another they are separated by the narrative. Yet they both seem to see most of the battles as being something they did together.

Idk maybe I'm grasping at straws it's late at night but I just think it's something interesting: it's like they exist at the center of each other's universes. Even when the other is not fully there, it still feels like they are working together, like it's all up to them. It's the two of them against the world. If that's not romance-coded I'm really not sure what is.

Will Being in the Background of the Monologue

I have no actual clue what I’m talking about and this might not make any sense sooo.... I’ll be talking about Will being in so many shots of the midleven monologue and why it’s weird even though other tv couples have had intimate👀/romantic scenes where other people were in the shot

1. There are only five people in the pizza parlor. It would be easy for Mike and El to be the only ones in the shots, yet they aren’t. To help me get my point across I’ll be using a Brittana scene from Glee.

 They are having an intimate moment as Santana is telling Brittany how she really feels about her. As you can see there are multiple people in the scene. The difference is that they’re at school during the day, where there are going to be lots of people so having them there makes sense.

2. You can clearly see Will’s facial expressions. Most people that walk by in the Glee scene are very very blurred, taking away from them being there. They also pass by super quickly, only having about a second of screen time.

3. Will is in love with Mike. Which makes him being in the scene really awkward, especially when he looks so hurt. All the bypassers are random people in our other scene. They serve no purpose except for showing kids in school.

 In the Peraltiago proposal scene they are completely alone until after the actual proposal happens, then Charles comes in and faints because he is overcome with happiness. This proves that it was a genuine moment between Jake and Amy

In the first episode of season six we see Jake and Amy on their honey moon where they run into Holt who is depressed because he didn’t get the job of commissioner. Jake and Amy think it’ll be a good idea to include him in their activities to cheer him up. It takes out the romantic aspect and instead humor replaces it showing that having a third person makes the once romantic part of the activities weird

To recap: You have to take in account the setting of the scene and if it makes sense for other characters to be there. The relationships of the people in the scene. And think why they would include other people, to either a) enhance the scene, show the positive reactions of the other characters, b) take away from the scene, show the negative reactions or c) it would be weird for no people to be there as the scene is in a public place
