hi! i was actually in the middle of answering this ask a few days ago but in hindsight i'm glad i never finished writing up an answer until after the world series. they were actually the first two players other than shohei who caught my attention when i first got into the dodgers and baseball.
this postseason easily cemented 1618 as my favorite battery, the way both will and yoshi poured their hearts and souls into their performance was such a joy to watch.
this hug.... could you name a more romantic thing than your catcher racing to the mound to carry you in joy after being 60 feet and 6 inches away from you the entire 17.2 innings you pitched in the world series? the inherent romance of knowing the catcher will always be the first to congratulate the pitcher, of sharing a special connection no one else on the team will be able to understand.
i love this image because you can see the relief pouring off of yoshi in waves and will's pride in him. they both had an incredible postseason with yoshi throwing two complete game and the first world series complete game in 10 years, throwing another 6 great innings his next start, and then closing out game 7 in extras the very next day. and will caught all 18 innings of the grueling game 3 guiding each pitcher through extras, and hit the winning homer last night to secure the first back-to-back championship since 2000.
in my opinion this all culminates in the image above, just seeing them be the first to celebrate with each other after such an amazing october feels so right to me. 1618 my beautiful battery, you will always be famous <3
