If you are a fan of TWIN PEAKS: The Return you will more than likely love TOO OLD TO DIE YOUNG. Of all the series I have watched over the years this one truly feels like watching a 13 hour film, Nicolas Winding Refn directed each episode and the entire series was written by Refn and the great Ed Brubaker. This movie is as if Alejandro Jodorowsky collaborated with Sam Peckinpaw to make a crime show. This is just my opinion but I feel it also refers to popular crime shows from the past two decades. In one way it is a goofy version of The Wire, and in another way it is a more believable version of Dexter. It jumps from being very surreal to being hyper-realistic. That is what makes it great because you can take the show as literal, that every scene depicted is how things happened, or you can take the show as metaphorical, meaning that what is being shown is how the characters in the scenes are perceiving the world around them. That what you're seeing is a picture of the internal state of the character's mind. Either way, whether it is pure goofy surrealistic satire or realistic depiction of psychological pathology, it is fucking awesome. If you watch it be prepared for some slow paced sequences, some scenes are equivalent to Andrei Tartovsky in pacing, so be patient. #bynwr #nicolaswindingrefn #totdy #toooldtoodieyoung #movies #arthouse #art #illustration #fantasyart #comicart #edbrubaker #criminalcomicbook #independentartist https://www.instagram.com/p/CIrKuIJjLsb/?igshid=1aux7yvxzbysx

Over recent months I have been devouring the content of Nicolas Winding Refn, Jimmy McDonough, Peter Conheim and BUREAU’s incredible archive restoration and streaming project byNWR.com. My time has been well spent as not only have I been introduced to some amazing, fascinating and weird cinema but I’ve also had the privilege of talking to those mentioned above about it all. So far I have two pieces out in the world. They are my first ever piece for Little White Lies and a piece for the Quietus that I would rank amongst my best to date.
More to come from this period of research and engagement with Refn’s act of philanthropic provocation. `But for now -
